Hi,

I bought two clown loaches from my local fish store today, however after putting them in the tank and letting them settle i noticed one of them didnt look well, i have taken a photo of the fish hopefully someone can help identify the problem. The fish is swimming around and eating just doesn't look right with the little marks on its skin.

I'm going to phone the shop tomorrow and complain that they have sold a possibly ill fish they were closed when i tried to phone today.

I have attached photo's hopefully they are clear enough

Thanks for your help.

It looks like white spot or velvet; you need some medication; but you must make sure that either you use a medication that specifically says it's suitable for 'scaleless fish', or use a normal med at half strength.

I have to say; something about that fish (apart from the disease) doesn't look right, especially round the head..don't be surprised if you lose it :(

Iam also thinking whitespot, looks very skinny, as said medicating clown loaches is dificult, what temp is the tank water? I would reccomend isolating the fish in another tank if you can do so.

Thanks for the replies.

Unfortuantly i dont have another tank to insolate the fish in.

I phoned the fish shop where i got the fish and complained about selling the fish, they said they didn't know at the time but when they checked the fish this morning they noticied the tank that he came from had whitespot in it and are now treating their fish. They gave me medication that should clear it up. It's the same as the medication they are using so hopefully it will clear up.

I have also read that increasing the tank tempertaure can help should i do this? the temperature is currently 25 degrees celcius 77 fahrenheit

Thanks

turn the temperature up to 80 degs and treat for white spot.. However the fish does not look well in general hollow looking belly etc.
Are they feeding? if so try and feed some good quality frozen food. Dryed Tubifx cubes are good and drop somme cucumber in there too, clowns love it and yours looks like it needs a little tlc. :good:

Thanks for all your responses!

The fish shop actually told me to return the fish to them for a refund which i have done. I'm continuing to do the whitespot treatment to finish the course of medication.

I have been looking at my other fish very carefully and i cant see any spots on them and they are all swimming about and eating as normal so hoping that the infection will have cleared up :)
