Help With Catfish Id

Hi, wonder if anyone can help me. This fish was sold to me as an upside down catfish... now Im having serious doubts. It rarely swims upside down compared to ones in another shop, and its growing v quickly. when i first bought it it was more stripy then spotty, has developed the spots recently. is also more black then the upside down cats ive seen. I'm concerned because i think it might be one that grows so big it will eat my neon tetras. im attaching a photo!! thanks in advance!

No it isn't, sorry.

If you look at the link it says any tank under 3 feet to go for syno. nigriventis (which is what you thought you had bought, upside down one). You should ring the shop it came from and explain they have sold you an unsuitable fish (as you have seen they grow quick and will hit 5-6 inch soon) and that you need them to replace it for one that can live in your tank.

I was thinking along the same lines! ok, v sad but def the best thing to do. better tell the fish shop what they're selling too to stop it happening to others!! thanks v much for your advice.

it indeed is a S eupterous.great syno.tons of personallity but if they dont have a big enough place to hide they will become aggressive until then

Thats coz it is the from the same family as the true USD cats, Synodontis nigriventris is the true USD cat, and that is a Synodontis eupterus

Yep, its a eupterous. Needs a 100ltr tank, but you should probably take it back and exchange it for something smaller. Dont forget that upside downs like to be in groups or 3 or more.
