I just bought this filter and I've never had a canister filter before and I have some questions. A couple hours after I got it set up (which was.. fun, lol) I go to check on it, make sure it's not leaking, you know. Well, it was making a sound like there was air in the impeller about every 30 seconds, and then air bubbles would shoot out of the out-flow for about 1-2 seconds. I looked at the canister and there were quite a few air bubbles that I could see. I unplugged it and tightened the intake connectors as much as I could and plugged it back in and watched it for about 10 minutes and it wasn't making anymore noise. Is this normal for newly set up canister filters? Or should I go back and mess with the connectors a little bit more? And yes, the canister was completely full of water.

Thanks!

It is normal that a canister makes some noise until the air has gone out of the system. This means not only the air in the canister but also in the hoses. When you have a primer (a button to re-start the filter) this is exactly what it does, taking the air out of the system so the filter starts working properly and doesn't make the annoying rattling noise.

I don't believe my filter has a primer button. It's not a big filter, it's has a rating of 85 gph and I'm using it on a ten gallon. But I'll give it a couple days for it to work the air out, and if it doesn't that's okay. I have louder filters, lol. Thanks~ ;3
