I've had the tank for about 9 months, I added another driftwood piece and soon after I started to develop algae on the areas with direct light contact. Its spreading slowly, on the gravel and on parts of the driftwood, and plastic plants. Is this because of the light used? Any suggestions on a remedy? I usually keep the light on 24/7? I have one male beta who started acting weird after the growth, he use to swim around a lot, now he hangs out in the upper corner wedged against the heater, or he lays on the driftwood. This is a stock eclipse six tank all plastic plants, gravel, and m. driftwood . I've cleaned the entire tank and it came back after a few weeks. Any help to get rid of it?
The algae will grow in a situation with ample light and nutrition. Try doing more frequent wc's, and putting a skip cycle in your light. Ie, turn it on in the morning let it go till 11 or 12, turn it off for an hour and then turn it back on for the rest of the normal tank light cycle. This will have very little effect on your plants or fish as to them, it's as if a cloud passed over... thats it. But for the algae, it will stunt the full growth of it, and if it doesn't outright stop it's growth, it will atleast make it easier to keep up with vacuuming it out of the tank
