Help With A Ph Of 8.2!

Hmmm 0.8 not accounted for...

I've had an idea...
How long has the tank been set up?
And what is your water change routine?
its been setup since the end of july i used to change the water every week whilst ammonia nitrite and nitrate were settling now for the last 6-8 weeks id say i have had the water stats always at ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 40 and ph 8.2.
and so i have been doing water change every week and a half . no more than that. i use a syphon gravel cleaner to suck out water and debris. works out to about 2 bucket full out and then 2 in. i then use a glass to ease new water in.

Hmm, all I thought is that if you're ever just topping up the tank then minerals and such build up in the tank. This leads to a higher GH and KH value, and therefore a higher pH.

If you haven't already I would try doing 2 or 3 50% changes one after another, eg. one tomorrow, one wednesday and one thursday.
Then test your pH on Friday, see if it's lower, and then just monitor if it stays down.

Seems weird though, judging by whats in your tank and what I've seen before I was sure it's be dissolved CO2 that was the issue.

will do and let you know thanks for the advice. will send you pm on thurs

just done a 50% water change . took some ph readings all the way through the process. cold untreated tap water was 7.0, cold untreated with a keetle full of water to bring to temp ph was 7.4-7.6 then i treated that water and it came out at 7.4 -7.6.... will do a tank test in an hour or so to let it settle down in there and let you know later.

No need to go to such lengths. Get a normal drinking glass, fill with water, leave overnight.

Test the pH of it in the morning. I would put money on it being simply that there is alot of dissolved C02 in the water supply straight out of the tap.

I also think its the dissolved CO2 in the tap water. I suggested using the airstone becasue it will drive out all the CO2 much faster out of the water, than letting it sit.

You need a KH and GH test kit. Also see if your water company has a water report. It should tell you whats in the water. I get one once a year from my water company.
