I'm watching my wee guppie in the hospital tank fade fast. I've had to switch the filter off and he's being thrown all over the tank and banging off the sides. He sinks down to the bottom then gets a wee burst of energy and swims back up again, then when he gets to the top he falls back down again. His tail looks ravaged with finrot and his poo looks white. I've treated him for internal bacteria and finrot and nothing is helping. I've got a small tub of water in the freezer and although I know in my heart of hearts he's not going to make it, what if he has a chance? Is there anything else I can do? The water is starting to go cloudy cos the filter's been off, the tank was only set up yesterday using mature filter sponge. The other guppy I had in the tank died earlier on today. Should I just put him out his misery? I can't cut his head off but I think my husband could, or should I just put him in the cold water and hold him til he dies?

It's nearly 2 in the morning, I can't go to bed and leave him.

Sounds painful.
Maybe use like an airstone of some sort, or an internal filter that runs on air pumps? Ones that doesnt create a lot of turbulence.
and maybe fill the tank water half way or lower so the guppy wont have to swim a long way up for air/food etc.

I have no idea what else you can do, I am no expert in treaments.

If worse comes to worse, do not cut his head off..
Use the freezing water, so the guppie doesnt feel any pain.
Put a bowl of water into the freezer, and take it out when theres a thin ice on top. Break the ice, and put the guppie in.

Doesnt sound like theres much hope, but who knows. Keep your hopes up =]
Good luck

Thanks foam, unfortunately its now past 2 in the morning and I can't do anythng other that swicth the filter on which I've done a couple of times to get some oxygen in the tank, then he gets bashed off the sides. His lovely bright red tail is now dull and almost black and shredded. It's hopeless, I'm going to euthanise.

Edit;
Just read your second post about the fishes death.
Sad to hear, hope your okay.
Hopefully it wasn't too painful a death.

Thanks Germ, it's getting to me a bit now. I think I have TB in my tank and it's a case of containing it now, the finrot I reckon was secondary to the TB. Just need to try and keep the rest of my fish healthy now and remove any that look as though they're coming down with it, I have a diamond tetra looking that way so I guess I'll have to clean out the hospital tank tomorrow and remove the tetra to spend his last days there alone. Arghhh!! Who'd have thought you could become so attached to fish!

Just to point out be careful, its very rare but fish Tb is one of the only fish related illnesses contractable by humans....
Other thread reminded me of this.
Don't panic, just take care.
Edit;i think if your up to date on your BCG then you are protected, if BCG covers fish TB, god, now even i'm worried :S

Sorry for your loss. I keep some guppies too, and it got to me too when one died.
At least you did everything you can.

and better clean that tank thoroughly x_X

Get some sleep.
