Hi,
I've been looking through this forum the past couple of days, and you all seem to know your stuff! I wondered if anyone could help me with the ID of my catfish. Spotty (original i know) is a 2 year old cat who is now about 7 inches long. I have no idea what he is or his preffered care. Although I would say he's appears to have done very well in his pretty large tank. He lives with some community fish but not many as I figured he shouldn't get crowded. If anyone could help me that would be great, he's very dark brown in colour with black spots and a silver dotted line down both sides. He has very long whiskers too.
Hope the picture works! Thanks.

Looks like some type of Synodontis Catfish

Thanks for the replies! I have looked up some pics of the S. eupterous and he's just like them! it's really nice to know a bit more about him as we are very fond of him. What do you feed yours on? spotty seems very peaceful and not aggressive to the other fish.

they are usually nice cats.if other fish pic on him though, ull see him be mean.but then hell calm right down again.i feed mine flake and shrimp pellet but i am worried about him lately because i dont see him eat much.he only eats a few flake peices

I have a feather-fin syno too and I love him, great fish. Mines 5" at the moment excluding fins, and he's called "Finn" (yep, another original name):D.
He is very peaceful towards all of my tetras, but can be nasty towards my plec sometimes (though I'm sure this is due to my tank being too small).
I feed mine frozen bloodworm once a week, frozen brine shrimp/daphnia/white mosquito larvae once a week, frozen mysis shrimp once a week and the rest of the time he gets king british catfish pellets.
He also eats any flakes that my other fish miss and he always steals my places algae wafers (now I have to out 3 in to make sure my plec gets some ).
I'm moving him along with my other fish into a 50gal soon so hopefully that will give him space to grow bigger, and leave my plec alone (though I'm not keeping my plec forever).
All in all, very nice fish!

mine is fine towards plecs and my small synos 1/4 his size.all in all, great catfish with a good personality
