I bought a betta which i thought was a female. But now I am not sure. I have a male veiltale but when I put my "female" betta there she bullies the male and the male retreats and hides. I think I bought a male betta of a different specie. I don't know. Hopefully you could help me.

Here are the pictures:

looks like an ordinary female to me, you should nevet keep the 2 sexes together except for short periods during breeding, if you are unsure of the male try get a picture of him up here too.

yep just looks like a plain old betta splendens.
females have a white ovipositor (egg laying tube)

Males, especially young ones, can have also a white spot which appears to be an ovi spot. So never take it as definate. But yes agreed, yours is a female.

Cheers

i agree with every one else, pretty lil female. I want to enphasise what everyone else has put about having the two together, it really could cause problems as you havealready started to notice

thanks guys. i appreciate all your comments. i am new at having bettas. i just actually bought her from the pet store and as i have read, most of the bettas in pet stores are old already. that's sad to hear.

i dont know where to find a good betta here in the philippines. im thinking maybe in the future ill buy something more fancy. im really interested at having bettas. :)

Most males are old when you buy them but allot of the time the females are quite young which is why you often realise you in fact have a male PK.

If i remember rightly Cracker Bettas is in the philippines, not 100% possitive but it might be worth checking out as he has amazing fish...was thinking of taking a holiday over there and stuffing my pockets with his bettas :shifty:
