right so here goes. i'm planning on adding a few plants to my betta tank it's only 6 inches tall so short plants are what is needed please.

it's filtered and warm so it's tropical temperatures about 75 f. but has high power lighting haloegen(sp?) lighting

right i've kept plants before but not really out of choice i had a planted tank once if you could call it that it looked a mess it wasn't my thing back then.

but i did look after a tank with java fern and crypts not the most demanding plants i know but i can't remember all the other names of the plants i've had.

so what i'm asking is what easy to keep plants are there for a 12inchesx6inchesx6inches tank. it has no cO2 or anything along those lines either. only live thimgs in the tank are my betta and algae (but the algae is only on the a few pebbles not everywhere).

i would like to use java moss? maybe some java fern and some others? btw the way i'm planning on adding plants to my 15g aswel but 1 thing at a time and there loads more of things for those size tanks so that will be easy i think.

any help gladly welcome.

More info please:

Is the tank heated or is the light heating it?
How 'high powered' is the lamp. What wattage tubes?
Do you have any bogwood in the tank?

Java moss is easy to grow, so is Java fern but it won't do well grown in gravel or sand.
Anubias nana petite is small and eay to grow but needs to be attached to bogwood.
Small crypts are pretty easy too, if you can find small species.

HAve a look here www.plantgeek.net

Hi There

There are loads you can use that will make a nice tank set up, if you wnat a bitof height you can go for Hygropolysperma ( nice and easy to care for) and some red ludwigia for a bit of colour. Youcan have plants that grow higher and just prune them back such as Elodea, Cabomba, Hyrdocotyle aquatica. Soem mroe at teh fornt and mid ground can be micanthemum umbrosum or any other low ground plants. vallis as well will stay short for you tank. If you are going to ever tyr and breed the fighter youcan get some floating plants such as salvinia natans as well for bubble nest. check out tropcial-aquarium-plants.co.uk they have loads on ther and youcanemail for nayhelp and advice prior to purchase

the light is a 35w bulb the light does heat the tank slightly not alot as the room is warm enough anyway.

i got java fern to grow in gravel really well once, whoops....

there isn't any bogwood any chance of attaching it to large pebbles or the filter, it's a DIY filter and is a a glass coffee jar which i'm trying to hide abit anyway.

btw i used to have some salvina in a different tank was tempted to get some more.

cheers for the replies.

what do you all think of this....

some java fern, some java moss about 10 pieces of salvinia (taking it out as it grows) and a small crypt?
