I opened up my filter to add purigen tonight and it's been leaking ever since. I added the purigen to the top tray and thought that maybe I overfilled the tray so I rearranged the media bags in there and I'm confident that everything is laying nice and flat. I've been searching around and I see that others have had this problem and there's a replacement part that Tetra will send you?

I'd like like some confirmation from those who know about these things as I also read that some people experienced the leak stopping on it's own :/

Here's a picture of where the leak is happening. When I first noticed it, it was leaking from both handles, a constant drip. Now it's just the one at the back where the pipes are, still just a drip not a stream. I've put it in a bucket for now but I've read of the leak getting worse as times goes on as well. ARGH!

Sorry this is a wacky and disjointed post, I am beyond exhausted and this is the last thing I needed tonight!

I'm looking to order 2 of these. Is this a common problem? Looks like I may need an alternative

Oh dear, the last you want is the stress of a leak. Sorry about that. You WILL remember not to mess with your tank when tired or out of office hours one day. But we all still do!

If I remember correctly, I read there was an issue with the pipe quick disconnect on the older models, there was only one seal whereas the new and the replacement pipe disconnect unit has two.

Tetratec have had their customer support praised very highly so I would give them a call and see what they suggest. They were sending out replacement parts promptly at the height of the issue.

Da dada da!! Team tetratec to the rescue!

Try greasing the o ring and re sitting the head onto the filter. Ensure it is pushed in as tightly as it can be before securing the handles.

If that fails then ring tetratec on 00800 76688766 and they will send you out some new parts. The usual suspect is a faulty hose adaptor. The older ones were single sealed whereas the new ones are double.

Thanks dudes - well mine is only about 2 weeks old but maybe it was from old stock :/

Ahh minnnt, my hero (why were you up at 2:25am...) it's not leaking from the main seal ...I don't think, but I'll certianly try that...

Is there any way I can easily tell if I've got a new/old hose adapter? I guess that if that's the problem (and I suspect it is) then the only cure is a replacement adapter?

And yes, it's still leaking, there was a small amount of water in the bucket this morning - luckily it is a very slow leak!

The new hose adaptors have grooves on the main lever and 2 seals on each end that fits into the filter, the older ones have a smooth lever and 1 seal on each end.

The newer filters say tetratec on the bottom of the filter, the older ones say tetra.

Try greasing your ring...

Tetratec will send you new parts with no questions asked. :good:

Looks like I've got an old one based on mine saying just tetra on the bottom - I haven't examined the part yet.

Stop flirting ya tart!

I phoned them and spoke to a very friendly lady for about 5 minutes and they are sending me a new head

But I think it's the hose adapter that's the problem :/ oh well - it's not like I can't still use the filter while this is all getting sorted.

Excellent result!!! It's always great to hear that there are still some companies in this world that give sterling after sales service.

Well if the first part they send doesn't work, then ring them back up again and they'll send you something else :good:

Rofl caz!!

The head won't work, its the adaptor that needs replacing. Ring em back tomorrow and get em to send you the adaptor.

The good thing about getting the new head is that you'll get a new O ring, impeller and shaft.

Some wonderful words that are crying out for some inuendo's...

Yeah well they gave me a reference number and said that if this doesn't fix it then they will send me the hose adapter so I'll be patient.

It'll be nice to have spares!

heh heh heh...he said shaft
