Hello. i have loads of small snails in my tropical tank and would like to know how to get rid of them. I have a lot of oddball fish and a big Mbu Puffer so i can not introduce any small puffers.

welcome to the forum snakefinger. i moved your topic out of newbie so it could get more traffic here.

what type of oddballs do you have? there are alot of sa/ca cichlids that would love a meal of fresh snails :p

Hi well i have a large Fontosa but i think he is to big to eat the snails. i also have a fresh water lion fish (toad fish) and a couple of siamise tiger fish. All the fish i have are preditors. So there not intrested in little tiny snails

a fish cannot be too big to eat snails. unless the snails are in a spot that he is too big to get into. i got four fronts and they love the snails. bought some plants for their tank that had snails on them. put them into the tank anyways. a few days later the fronts were looking awful happy and the snails are nowhere to be found. try fasting them for a day or two and see if they become interested in the snails.

By far the quickest and easiest way of getting rid of snails is to do it yourself, after you have fed the fish in the evening turn the lights out and wait, soon the snails will come out onto the glass and furniture where you can remove them with a syphon doing a small waterchange at the same time, repeat this every other day for a week and you will soon have them under control.

You always have the option of selling the snails to a small local pet store, they are always looking for a way to cut prices (not to metion spending). That is what I normally ending up doing, I either sell or trade my fishes offspring to the store. (They always make the comment, it is cheaper doing business with you). I guess you can say their suppilers charge a lil more than they like.

Peace,

I would get rid of them my self but there are that small and there is loads of them. i have a 88 gallon tank so there is loads of places for them to hide

Furniture? Snails will go all the way out onto the furniture? -_-

The tank furniture like bogwood and ornaments and such :S

I don't know if they would get along with your fish or conditions but a clown loach will eat every snail in the tank.
