i got 4 green severums as babies they would be 2 years old max. they are getting quite big now so i was wanting to keep a 'pair' and sell the other 2.

for sexing people say the males have more colour around face and gill plates but to me they all look the same. i thought the males had longer and straight pointy fins that extend beyond the tail fin where as the femals have more rounded fins?

there are 2 bigger ones which are darker in colour but thats maybe because of their dominance over the other 2 smaller ones.
can anyone tell by these photos? thx

I read somewhere while researching my red severum that males are the only ones with those squiggle markings on the head/face. But not totally sure on the accuracy/ or if thats just red severums

i cant tell any difference in markings. the 2 big ones are just darker because of their domnicance over the smaller ones

Photo #2 male 100% and very nice.

If they all have worming on the gill plates and between the eyes then you have all males. Color and fins has nothing to do with it.

The males tend to have more extended dorsal and anal fins, although this is far from being a failsafe differentiation between the sexes.
As mentioned, the worming on the face is the best "easy" option in sexing them(the best is venting), with females having less or no markings. This also is not failsafe but seems to be accurate about 90% of the time.

If you are keen to have a pair that will breed, then you simply need to let them choose their own partner. Having a male and a female in a tank together does not mean for sure that they will be happy to accept each other as spawning partners. However, I do suspect that, as you have had them in the same tank for 2 years and you have not mentioned them breeding, that you probably have all one gender. If you just want to keep two fish, and are not bothered about breeding then just choose the two who get on the best together in the tank.
If you want us to try and sex them with any more accuracy, you will need to provide side on, and ideally head on, close up shots of each fish.

Absolutely gorgeous :D for me I would say using the first pic from left to right - female, female, male, male. Though I have to admit I am a bit unsure of the smallest one but your individual photos look like they back that up as well.

If your wanting a pair you would need to wait for two of them to pair up and choose each other because adding two sevs together isnt like adding two cons together.

I dont know with greens but my female Rotkeil has no patern (worming) on her face at all, if you compare these with fishyjakes pair in the classified section his female has no pattern either, hate to say it but they all look male to me!

All look male to me too.

Typical female facial markings will look like this one, which is my female turquoise.
