Hi, sorry that this is my first post but am rather concerned about one of my Angelfish (I think a male), he was totaly fine this morning. I fed him Tetra Prima this morning which he enjoyed (in the evenings he gets frozen bloodworm & Beefheart mix). A couple of hours later I noticed a large swelling/feces comeing out of him, it looks as if he had been constipated & then developed a prolapsed anus???
Sorry my piccy is not great but my batteries have run out in my camera & I can't find the chager
Any ideas on diagnosis & treatments would be very greatfully recieved. Thanks, Lisa.
the way it is progressing looks not good.

Sometimes a prolapse can retract back in.
Sometimes the fish will die.
Not sure there much to be done.
Enlarged anus and stringy poo can be signs of internal parasites.

Do you cut the fat out of the beef heart.

All you can do is issolate and use a bacterial med just to make sure there no infection.

Ok thanks, only had this fish for a week, the beefheart is a frozen beefheart & bloodworm mix.
Will isolate asap. Thanks.

I see.
Prolapes can be due to constipation, bacterial infection, internal parasites.
I would issolate him.
Keep any eye on other fish for signs of long stringy white poo.

Will de-worm the others, but have now lost this fish :( .
Thanks, Lisa.

Has he died.
I would freeze him in a bag and take him to the lfs and get your money back.

Yes he is dead, had swopped some fish for him from a breeder, will de-worm the other Angelfish & Discus I got from him asap. Thinking about it now the fish was a bit quiet yesterday.
Thanks, Lisa.

Yes I would worm them too.
Bless Him. R.I.P.

I have read that Angels are known for parasites and that people quarantine them and de-worm them before adding to the tank. Anyone know why ? Why these fish in particular ?

It's best to quarantine all new fish anyway.
I worm all new fish too.
Internal parasites do alot of damage to the organs and can't infect other fish.
