We have a 135 gallon freshwater aquarium that consists of seven cichlids, two plecos, black and gray speckled catfish. We just did a full tank change when we were getting rid of our koi because they got too big and we had to relocate them.
We use all the same chemicals that we normally use the only thing we changed was we brought up our pH level from 7.2 to 8.0. We have the same filtration system running and we only added a new bubbler. All of a sudden there's this nasty-looking long stringy what looks like fish poo. Some pieces are 8 to 10 in Long. Is this fish poop is it algae? It is getting to the point to where it has to do a 50% tank change every day it is also started to cause our tank to have a greenish color to it on a daily basis.

This page will not allow me to upload the photos it says the file size is to large.

I wanted to add that if I'm able to post photos please not this is how bad it gets In only 2 days

You can reduce your resolution size in your settings and try again. We’d love to help you.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Why did you increase the pH from 7.2 to 8.0?

What sort of cichlids do you have?

Did you have the cichlids and catfish before you got rid of the Koi, or did you buy them to replace the Koi?

How big are the fish?

Make sure your filter outlet is at the opposite end to the intake strainer.

What sort of cichlids do you have? They are all African cichlids just a variety of them and Jack Dempsey's.

I had them all at the same time

How big are the fish? My Cichlids Are all still little I think the biggest one is maybe an inch and a half to 2-inch my plecos are 5 to 6 in and my catfish are also babies maybe two-and-a-half to three

Make sure your filter outlet is at the opposite end to the intake strainer.

I took a screenshot of the pictures that I took which made the resolution smaller that was a little bit easier because we just did a tank change so I was unable to take more pictures because now the tank is clean again for the third time this week. And given that it is 135 gallons that's a little bit of a pain in the butt to have to keep doing. Here is the images of all the Pooh reminder this is two days worth

It's from the suckermouth catfish. They eat a lot of fibre and produce a lot of waste.

It eventually breaks down in the gravel but can look unsightly, especially on brightly coloured gravel that contrasts with it.

Make sure you have some driftwood in the tank, the plecos need this to help their digestion.

Make sure you give them plenty of plant matter. You can use slices of cucumber, zucchini, pumpkin, spinach, etc. Make sure they are free of chemicals and remove uneaten food after a couple of hours.
