I got my boy Sonny a few weeks ago, b/c he had a really bad chewed tail. It seems to be getting a bit better, but I just got him out to do a water change and he has greenish looking stuff on the side of his face. It's worse on one side. I'm almost positive that he didn't have it before, and my brothers g/f who was with me when I got him, said she didn't think he had that coloration on him either. What do you think it is, and what should I get to treat him. At the moment I'm trying to get pics. So I'll post them as soon as I get a decent one! Thanks in advance for any help.

Edit to add pics..... and to say that I just checked his before pictures and the coloring was there a little bit, but it's much worse now. I added salt to his tank, as all I have on hand at the moment is melafix.

BUMP! Someone please help, I need to know what kind of meds to get tomorrow!

It kind of looks moldy. Kinda raised up. It doesn't just look like coloring although he has a green tint all over his body. Sorry I don't have better pics.

If it looks moldy, I'd say it's columnaris.

It will spread like wildfire.
I've successfully treated it with maracyn, low temps and very clean water.
Good luck!

I thought columnaries were white? This is green colored? I'm headed to work so I'll get some Maracyn at my lfs. How low should the temp be?

Edit to add- I just got back from my lfs, he said he thought it would be better to treat with melafix, b/c it is stronger. He said it was some kind of fungus when i described it to him, and asked me for certain other symptoms which Sonny doesn't have. I told him I would try the melafix and see if it improves it any. If not then in a few days I will be getting the Maracyn. He asked another girl and she said the same. They are normally pretty reliable, so I will try this for a bit.
