hi, i'm relatively new to the tropical fish world, i have a 96ltr juwel aquarium, in it i have 2 angelfish, 2 silver (bala) sharks, 1 panggasius and a few tetras.

my problem is the one of the angelfish has lost the 2 long light coloured fins underneath and it cant swim, it jus sits at the bottom flapping.

if anyone can help me with this it would be really appreciated!!

thanks,

dave

hi and welcome to the forum .......not what you want to hear i know but you need to re-home everything apart from the tetras . they all need much bigger tanks than you have

the pangasus is a tank buster can gro huuuuge the balas can hit 12 inches and needs to e kept in groups. the angels need a tank at least 18 inches deep. i personally wouldnt keep an angel in anything less than 55gallon. best guess the pang has attacked the angel. sounds like its on borrowed time to me.depending on what the tetras are they could be responsible also as some tetras are nippy. specially with slow moving long finned fish like angels.

i totally agree with this statement

hi thanks for the quick reply the pang is about 14-16cms at the min and the balas are about the same if not bigger, they have really grown a lot recently, as for the tetras nipping, the long fins on the angel dissapeared over night leaving only the stumps, its just sitting on the gravel at the min, it tries to swim but cant stay up in the water and falls nose first back down, i dont know what to do with it

probably be kindest to euthenise it . sounds harsh i know but cant really see it recovering

quickest kindest way would e net it and literally give it a good smack over the head. altho before doing anything hasty maybe try posting in the tropical emergencies section to see if anything can e done for it. but the outlook seems pretty bleak. i had a pictus catfish that had its whiskers bitten off and it died the next day.

thanks again, sounds like thats what i'll have to do, maybe best to start over agin with new stock once i get them all re-homed

the black neons shoal together in the bubbles from the filter and the glowlights stay on the bottom with the neon tetra

once the angels pangasus and balas are gone you could probably add another 5 neons no probs

in a 96 litre tank wot would you recommend for a good setup? should i add any plants? i am also still using the juwel filter, i know some people have removed these anf upgraded to the likes of a fluval
