i went to my local fish store and the owner had a "coming soon" sign listed next to an empty tank, i asked what would be going into it and he said a "spotted leaf fish" it was only $7.99 and i figured, hey if it is something i can put into my tan kand care for why not go for it?
i tried looking it up and couldnt find it, i should of asked him about it i didnt.

does anyone know about this fish?
how big does it get?
is it like all leaf fish and is difficult to keep?
is it aggressive?
anything...

Although often climbing perches seem to be lsited as spotted leaf fish... Leaf fish, if you do a search on this forum, are almost impossible to wean onto dead foods and very hard to keep. Whereas climbing perches are pretty easy to keep.

Leaf fish are a savage fish that stays still and waits for an unlucky fish to nibble on it thinking its a leaf the fish then gets snapped by the leaf fish......

Not really savage.... just predatory. They would eat any fish that can fit in their huge mouths. theres a difference between aggressive and predatory.

I just saw this thread so sorry I'm late to the party. Here's a link to a profile I wrote about keeping Ctenopoma acutirostre. Hopefully you'll find it of some use.

I have two of these fish and they are lovely fish and if you have the space I would recommend them.

While the profile posted was very good, I would be a little wary of putting one in 20 gallon. Our two live in a 6x2x2 with silver sharks, chalceus, cigar sharks, limas ......

They have very large mouths and will with ease eat a 2 - 2.5" fish if it so happens to cross their path. Mine are feed on bloodworm, prawns, mussels, shrimp and pretty much anything else that falls into the tank.

I will also say that they grow very quickly. We bought ours at about an inch long less than a year ago and they are pushing 4" now. They seemed to slow down when they hit about 3" but they got to that in a few months. So if you were going to put them in a smaller tank and then upgrade them you will be upgrading fairly soon.

ok, see the problem is that half of the previous advice applies to the Leaf Fish and the rest to the "Spotted Leaf Fish" or Leopard Ctenepoma.

wait until the fish actually arrive, try to get a good look at their appearance for identification, and THEN start trying to research them. common names are so regularly messed up or manufactured that they're pretty well useless for precision research, esp. for a yet unseen fish. but you've gotten a good head start on knowing what the possibilities are like, so
