You are going to want to change your water daily for the next few weeks (as much water as you can without having to remove the fish from the tank).

As per your filter... the next time it is in need of a cleaning, remove the filter media (usually floss or a sponge) and place it in a container of old tank water and rub/squeeze it thoroughly to remove the debris. You can scrub the plastic casing of the filter under regular tap water. This way you retain your good bacteria but remove any debris that is hampering the water flow. I find I only need to do this once every 4-6 weeks. I have yet to replace any of my filter sponges and the ones in one of my tanks are second hand (came as mature media and I don't know how old those sponges were).

Please don't go only on that one test that your water is fine. If you have changed what is in your filter it will not stay that way and in such a small tank can reach dangerous levels quickly. It will take several weeks to cycle your filter with fish in your tank. Do read up on a fish in cycle in the beginners section.

Also... I rarely buy my fish supplies from a fish store. I don't know what country you are in, but I buy a lot of stuff either on Amazon or ebay for much cheaper.
