I've found online a 4ft tank for sale with 50+ clown loaches in it ranging from 3-11". I can't get it out of my mind, the thought that somebody may buy it, thinking it's fine and not even do enough water changes to keep the fish alive.

The asking price is pretty high, but I'm offering around £350ish (gotta see what I can haggle down to). This is in Derby I think.

What I'm asking for perhaps 2-3 people with suitable sized tanks who can put in some money towards buying this lot and take a quantity of clown loaches or any of a royal panaque, blue phantom plec, tiger plec and a few catfish to either keep for themselves or re-sell/rehome from their own tanks.
Also anyone who may want to put in some money to have the tank itself, a 4ft Juwel tank with accessories (I presume filter/heater/stand/hood/lights etc).

Please post on here if you can help.
If I can coordinate this I'll be travelling up from North London, so anyone anywhere between London and Derby or in London who can't travel but can help please still post, as I can do all the legwork and bring anything down (I have a big 4x4).

Please please help me give these clown loaches a good home for Xmas.

These are big fish so really, I only want to pass any large numbers of these onto (for rehoming or keeping) to people with a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft tank or larger really.

Alternatively, if anyone is after some nice sized clown loaches (no matter how small the number) for a bit cheaper than you can find them in shops, then still post, and post what you would be prepared to pay - I could coordinate this with you all in mind, every little will help!

This sounds horrific -how on earth did current owner manage to keep them alive? Even feeding 50+ large fish must be quite a challenge, let alone water changes.

Don't have space for large clowns in my current tanks but as I live in London I will do what I can to help.
1. I can lend you an empty 4ft tank and heater for up to 5 months or whatever it takes to rehome them all.
2. I can temporarily keep the smallest 3in fish for a while till they are rehomed or grow too big for me.
3. I you really HAVE TO buy the tank too, I may be able to buy it off you if I can find room for it, in which case I can also adopt however many clowns can safely fit in it.
Please contact me.

PS:Where is this tank being advertised for sale?

I bet tank is awfully cramped.

A 4ft tank isnt really big enough for 1 clown loach, let alone 50!!!! Considering they can reach 12" as you've seen they should be in a 5ft minimum, preferably 6ft.

I'm sorry I dont have the current facilities to house any clown loaches although they are great fish.

I hope you get the help you need to save these poor fish. Why not have a word with some of your lfs store? You may get some decent prices for the clown loaches, especially the bigger ones. Fully grown clown loaches tend to fetch around £35 so I think you may be able to persuade some lfs to give you somewhere between £5-£10 although it would obviously mean you laying out the money in advance.

Thanks guys for your offers of help.

Unfortunately, I have had a big blow to my finances this year having to find a new place with my partner to live, so I won't be able to get these fish unless I can gather together some people who are willing to put in money and take some fish.
My electricity bill won't handle having two big tanks running either so I can only really take as many clowns as can happily go into my 6ft (which I can stock too adventurously due to being a new tank just with some old cycled media in each of the new filters!).

I'm holding out hope that this can happen, but can't shell out much myself.

Which is such a shame because those poor fish must be stressed to high heaven in there so crowded and I dread to imagine the water quality :(

where abouts are you based? im trying to find at the moment a few clown loach around 3 inches long to replace ones i've lost. my current clown loach have become really withdraw after the deaths. i could only take 2 or 3 fish maximum off you as i'll also be needing to get a larger tank in the new year. but like you said. every little helps.

Katie

If you have to pass through brimingham ill take the blue phantom, royal and the tiger plecs? for what i can get them for which would be £35.

If the blue phantom is taken then if you are passing birmingham ill take the tiger and the royal for again what i can get them for which would be £25.

Pm me if this is possible

thanks :)

This has fallen by the wayside a little while I moved house and everything but have just got back and checked preloved for the advert - sure enough it's still there, and seems the lady is refusing to drop her price OR sell any fish separately - which seems not only cruel but complete madness to me.

I may wait until the new year and see if it's still going and offer again to take some of the loaches and other fish off her hands, but haven't got the money behind me nor the time to do the journey (nor can I afford to put the miles on our car which we're trying to sell lol).

Please do all let me know whether these offers of homes will still be open in the New Year - I can't do a lot of ferrying around as I simply cannot afford the fuel, but may be able to deliver some if fuel can be paid for.

I'm hoping this woman realises she won't be able to shift the tank and fish as a package and let me take some of the fish off her hands though :(

This looks like it may be back on - the lady still has not sold her tank and fish but my partner is really interested in some of the fish out of the tank but will buy the whole thing and re-sell fish he doesn't want.

I think he mainly wants to keep the plecs but has promised me a few of the clownies if I particularly like any :D

So, we're going to need buyers for a hell of a lot of clown loaches!

I know we had some interested parties back a few months ago - but please could everyone would would be interested in some clownies in the next month or so post here - we want to make sure these fish will have homes!

They will be pickup from North London but it's possible to coordinate me taking some to Basingstoke and some to the Midlands and/or Wales as I visit family.

Hi,

Would it help if I offered to do the driving? & cover the fuel, I have a transit van.

PM me with details, possible dates, etc...

Hi AD,

The bloke just got in touch with Kev last night and said he was in two minds about selling in the first place and he's decided to keep the tank now which is a little annoying - and those poor fish have to stay crammed into a 4ft tank for a now indefinite amount of time. I wonder how many of those poor clown loaches will die young?

Thank you so much for the offer of help though, I'll keep my eyes peeled in case he decides to sell again and perhaps let you know if anything changes?

In a way, it's less hassle and work for us, but I'm just gutted about the poor fish. I was really looking forward to seeing them all have more space and be homed to big tanks where they can live out their lives able to stretch their fins.

That really is a shame, I hope he see's sense and rehomes some before it's too late.

Please let me know if anything changes?

I hope he does too - will get Kev to text him back and tell him to give us first refusal should he change his mind and you'll be the first to know :)
