Hey guys hoping some of you can help me.
Ive got a pair of kribs that i baught about 1 yr ago that were already paird off together and have been getting on real well together.

But after the female had been hiding in her little coconut cave for over a week and the male guarding it like mad i had been expecting some fry, as i hadnt noticed any fry after over 1 week like i had the last time i took the plunge and decided to lift the cave to find that the female has lost almost all her clolor and her tail fin almost chewed right off.

As soon as she moved the male gave chase and chased her everywhere lunging for her, looks as if he has been bullying her and pinning her down in the little cave. i have now removed the male (who still has his full colour) and have put him in a qt tank as he relentlesly chased the female around lunging, nudging and looked like biting her. (when i took the coconut cave out), it wasnt like there normal little tussles where she would go head to head with him and they push eachother back anf forward.

Since the male has been moved to the qt tank she has came back out of the cave and is happily swimming around amongst the other fish in the comunity (see Aqua vital sig)

My question is ......
1) Is this common,
2) is it poss that the female will no longer tolorate the female ??
3) is there a chance that the two can be re introduced together ??
4) is there any use in attempting to change the tank lay out and introduce the 2 together again or temp set up another tank (aprox 60l) and introduce only the 2 of them together in this tank ??

Some other info that may help is that they have from what i know only had fry together once and that was 4 weeks ago however 1 nite i could se 15 / 20 swimming fry in the cave, the next day there were none, they both came out the cave for a while and swam around as per normal together until recently.

i will post this in african childids forum too so sorry if you come accros this trat twice but if you are able to give or offer some advice it would be much appriciated.

Hi Scott,

Might I suggest you add 2 or 3 more females and possibly 1 more male? I've always stuck to 2 males and 4 femal kirbs and can't say I've ever come across this problem before.

Hope it helps.

Cheers

kribs can get teretorial especially when they pair off and have fry and if there is a lone female she can be bullied, i think having poss 2x pairs in my tank would cause havoc for the rest of the fish in it as there wouldnt be enough floor space especially if they both take a corner each. but will do some more reading onn how mated pair get on with other mated pairs in a community tank.

Has any one else any other suggestions or answers to my questions ?? as i said all responces greatley received.

I did have this prob with my current male although the female wasnt injured she just hid by the filter outlet for a while. unfortunately she died but I got lucky with the next female I added and they have spawned twice since.
if you do reintroduce keep a close ey id say.
