Hello all , im lookung at getting a tropical fishtank set up and i was woundering if i have missed any thing

tank around 140 litre

Hagen Master Test Kit, - http://www.fishbitz.co.uk/index.asp?functi...;productid=1519

these auqa couloured lights - http://www.fishandfins.co.uk/aquarium-lighting.htm if i get these would i need another light

Tetratec Aquarium Heater thermostats - http://www.fishandfins.co.uk/tetra-tec.htm , could some one recommend the watt i will need for the size of the tank please

air filter - http://www.fishandfins.co.uk/tetrapumps.htm

is there anything im missing of this list

as for the fish i would like 1 - Bristlenose catfish
5 Cardinal tetra,
1 or 2 cherry barb
1 Siamese fighter
1 Zebra pleco
5 Pentazona barb
1 Paradise fish
maybe 1 angel fish

would these fish be ok in a community do you think

so if anyone will help me it would be very appreciated

cheers james

don't put a betta in! (siamese fighter) They arent called fighters for no reason, males are ideally kept alone, some will live with others, but I def not with some of those fish you have listed

also some of those are schooling fish and shouldnt be kept in groups of less than 6 (ie the cardinals)

the air pump is not a filter, it will just airate the water so you still need a filter

140l is about 36 gallons, I *think* that means you need a 50watt heater.

Those light things are ok, but a proper light is better, most tanks come with the lights/heater/filter anyway, unless you are literally just getting the tank.

Sorry for the fact this is all in bits, just adding as I think of things!

Zebra Plec... ooh nice.. Have you found one near you at a reasonable price?

And pentazona barbs... I like them. I don't think enough people see them as an option. They are not aggressive like tiger barbs. I have had no problems or losses with them whatsoever, although i hear they can be open to white spot quite easily. Once they have settled into the tank their colours come out even more, with a little green shimmer down the sides.

Heres a pic of mine when they were new.. 5 is a good number, as they do swim together often.

Good Luck

yeah when i was looking at fish i liked the tiger barbs but it said they were not very good in a community, then i seen the pentazona barbs and liked them , as for a decent price on the zebra plec , no i havent but i will have to get one because i think they look great :) i also wouldnt mind a Black Telescope Goldfish in there do you think this would be ok in the community

cheers james

The Siamese fighter and the paradise fish would rip each other to bits- labyrinth fish are highly territorial.
The paradise fish on its own is better.
The zebra plecos retail at a little over 100 pounds each and like being kept in a group- but there are lots of nice small catfish to choose from. I would go with just the bristlenose at first, and then when the tank is mature (after a few months) have a look round for other nice catfish.
Btw I take it you are planning a fishless cycle: none of the fish on your list are hardy enough for a non-cycled tank. See pinned topic on cycling.
Pentazona barbs are nice, never see them around here. Though maybe they prefer better water than we've got anyway.
I don't think a goldfish would be a very good idea for this tank. They are coldwater fish, and great mess producers, and may well eat the smaller fish.
The reason why zebra plecs are so horrendously expensive is that they are a threatened species- so maybe it's better to save those until you have a little more experience and maybe even are in a position to breed them.

cheers dwarfgourami

so iv sacked the idea of a fighter and the goldfish

yeah was planing on a fish less cycle the put the Cardinal tetras in first

how many zebras would i need to put in if i eventually did have these
iv seen a nice onr for 30 quid a Queen Arabesque Pleco (L-260 http://www.tropicalfish4u.co.uk/acatalog/Q...co__L-260_.html would one of these be ok instead of the zebra pleco

cheers

edited to add that i was srecommended a Eheim 2224 LIMITED EDITION + MEDIA filter as well http://www.fishbitz.co.uk/index.asp?functi...p;productid=961

and also can someone recommend a air filter please and any thing else iv missed of my list please

thank you

there should be little need for an air pump
if you get the eheim set up the return tube it disturbs the water surface and you'll be just fine an air pump connected to something suitable just gives you bubbles might look nice, or you might think not natural - personally i'm not convinced they oxygenate the water significantly to worry about needing one

dont put the cardinals in first, they are quite delicate and need a more mature tank, dont add them for at least 2 months after the tank is cycled :)

cheers peeps , so i wont get a air filter then ill just get

Eheim 2224 LIMITED EDITION + MEDIA filter - http://www.fishbitz.co.uk/index.asp?functi...;productid=1303

Hagen Master Test Kit, - http://www.fishbitz.co.uk/index.asp?functi...;productid=1519

these auqa couloured lights [3 red, green , blue] - http://www.fishandfins.co.uk/aquarium-lighting.htm

Tetratec Aquarium Heater thermostats 100 watt ?- http://www.fishandfins.co.uk/tetra-tec.htm ,

and as for the tank i was thinking

http://www.hayesaquatics.co.uk/ssl/aspcart...oduct_id=100634

so if i get all that will i be set to do a fish less cycle

cheers

U will also need a bottle of ammonia if planning a fishless cycle, u can get this at most chemists.but check that there is no added perfumes etc and that it is pure. shouldt cost more than a couple of pounds. there are alot of lovely plecs on tropicalfish4U website but no zebras, lots of lovely ones thou around twenty pounds. i have read the notes on how they are packaged and sent ..it looks good but me myself are not keen on the idea of online fish. Hope this helps.
