hiya i need some help please. i have a giant gaurami and his been acting wierd recently. over the past few days he doesnt seem to be eating much and he keeps going on a mad one and smacking off the tank. his quite bruised up on his head. his about a year and a half old. iv tested the water its fine, the other fishg in the tank are fine. i have a big tank about 500l plenty of room. just recently as in the past week or 2 his been going off like i said on mad ones. is this normal or has this happened to anyone else's?

thanks alot

how big is the gourami?

Only reason I ask is 500 litres is nowhere near big enough for a big giant gourami. I once had a 21 inch one in my 700 litre tank and it was far too small as they are such big bulky mobile fish

If hes not that big yet I can only imagine hes been spooked somehow and lost his confidence and darts around when frightened, is the tank in a busy room, any backing on sides etc?

There's a picture of him in the link above. His about 1st 2 inch his very free in the tank. I just don't know.

I cant see a pic just a empty photocucket pic. is that 1ft 2 inches you mean?14 inches? if so hes getting big and will get much bigger very soon and will be too big for your tank. I hope youhave a massive tank ready for him when he does

When the time comes I will upgrade but it doesn't help with what's going on with him now. His only just started doing what his doing. Not eating much?

it may if hes finding the tank too small hence my original post. As I said they can get spooked and feel unsure of themselves etc

Do you have a background on the tank or side covers as well if the tank is exposed?

Simon

There's a dark blue background on it, nothing on the sides.

might be worth giving blocking the sides off a crack see if it makes it more secure in its surroundings

i cant realy add to this as simonas is on the ball.and i have found this guy to be good in what the advice he posts. but as said steee you will need a bigger tank very soon if not now. mate i have only had my gg for a short while but speking to some other keepers when i was doing research b4 i got her one did say that thay can get a bit skitish in a tank thats to small for them . just one thourt could it have gill fluekes as i have heard this can make fish dart about.
i keep my gg in a 7x3x3 at the moment wich is fine for a adult tho this is not a tank for life i will go a bit bigger
also as has been pointed out even tho a gg is a big fish thay can be a bit timid so puting up a tank backing on 3 sides may help
good luck steee hope you get to the bottom of this mate
doha :good:
