Help needed asap, sick platy (ulcers) - Updated

My female platy hasn't been looking well recently and has been pestered by one of the cherry barbs, but today I noticed she now has 2 large white spots on her back which I am guessing are ulcers. Not quite sure how these developed although the platy has been hiding by a rock in the tank and may have caused damage do herself.

She doesn't look good and I'm fearful that she'll die quite soon. The problem is that I have been treating the tank with medication up until a day ago. Does this mean that I can't use a medication for the ulcers for another day or so? I want to treat the platy asap to give it a chance, but not if using another treatment will endanger the other fish.

I don't have a hospital tank set up unfortunately, but do have a spare tank free. I assume its too late to transfer the water and the platy into the new tank without causing death from shock anyway?

Any advice would be appreciated!

i would transfre it to the other tank,but thats just me id alos do salt baths!good luck

Salt baths can't cure everything though especially if its an internal bacterial infection;

What were you treating the tank for and what brand of med were you using?

What are your sick platys behavior like? How big are these white spots exactly? What is your platys natural coloring and are these spots plain white or do they have other color/texture in them?
Any info you can give us like water stats, other tank mates, tank size, any strange behavior fish are exhibiting etc will be very useful in making a more accurate diagnosis of the problem

I had been treating the tank for interior infection as I had feared that what was wrong witht the platy before the ulcers appeared. Levels are:

Ammonia and Nitrite are 0
Nitrates are fairly high but not unusual.
Water is fairly hard and the pH level is around 7.

Nothing unusual in the readings, its a 20 gallon tank thats been running for 2 years. Its a sunset platy whose colour is still vibrant apart from two fairly big ulcers a few mm in size. Its been 48 hours since last treating the tank so I'm planning to go and get an ulcer treatment. Anything else I can do?

I would treat the ulcers inside and out, with an internal bacteria med and some melafix to help on the outside, good luck.

Well I finished a 5 day course to treat the ulcers and the platy is a lot more lively and swimming around the tank as usual. However, one of the ulcers is still there and is fairly big. Is this likely to be a further problem, or will it just go in time?

It has many pictures of fish deseases, including ulcers and what causes them as im not sure if your remaining fish ulcer is the same as the rest; if you find anything that matchs what you've got tell us and we'll help you treat it effectively

If the fish still has the ulcer you might need to retreat,and some salt baths.
