Rabid Betta Activist
This is probably one of the few bettas I've bought in a while who wasn't a rescue. I went to Petco today to buy food for my cricket breeding colony, and found that the last shipment of bettas hadn't sold well, and new ones had come in. The store was scrambling to get the new ones on the shelves, and clean the old ones, who looked very over-due. I recognized on of the males from two weeks ago - a lovely, but small, pineapple VT - and decided that I had to have him. I had been tempted last time because he has the sweetest face, but didn't feel right about buying a non-rescue. However, with a dozen rescued fishies in my house, I think I deserve a treat every now and again, and I probably will still get a refund for him just because I am so appaled by the way our local Petco cares for its bettas.
Anyways, when I asked for the pineapple male (he had to clean the cup first), the employee made a funny face and asked "him?" holding up the dull colored boy in his dirty cup. I confirmed that it was the fish I wanted, and he snorted and asked if I loved all "ugly" things. A little bothered by this statement, I replied "Why? You single or something?" I don't think he was too amused.
Anyways, I want to name this fish something that means "beautiful" or "handsome," but coming right out and calling him either seems cheesey. So, if you know any good synonyms, names meaning those words, or even something meaning the same in another language, please pipe in with some ideas!
Thanks. I'll post a pic as soon as he's all calmed down and acclimated.
