HELP! My water parameters are freaking out! How is my betta alive

Keep in mind that this has worked for me for 4 years. The water is very soft all the time. I was just tryna find answers for the reason why my ph was good one day the Terrible the next

Maybe the company changed their water source, or they started adding things to it. The fact is, adding that amount now has caused the pH and KH to go up. Either add less or get the water checked before you add anything and go from there.

Baking soda increases PH and KH. Based on your test results you were adding a lot of it. Baking soda also adds sodium. Fish need a ballance of sodium and potassium in the water to be healthy. If sodium or potassium gets to high while the other stays low it can fish. In all likelyhood the baking soda also killed your fish.

People mainly added baking soda to increase KH to stabilize PH. But in my experience a decorative sea shell does a much better job. Sea shells are mainly calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate only dissolves in acidic water (PH less than 7) It does not dissolve in water when the PPH is above 7. In my tank it stabilizes myPH at about 7 and KH in the water is very low. The only thing I need to do is to replace the shell about once a year.

YALL are getting confused. I did a water change 4 days ago the water was perfect ! The ph was low and KH was perfect as well. Then yesterday I decided to test the water. It showed the Ph was crazy. I happened within 1 night. Also I don’t add the baking sofa into the water with the fish in it. The water and baking soda is in a totally different section until it’s ready. My fish didn’t die either. Thus happened in a one night.
