Hi all.

I'm new to tropical fishkeeping and before getting fish I ran a fishless cycle.
That lasted a month and a halfish.
Have had fish for about 3 weeks now.

I had barbs, an albino plec, albino Congo tetra, and a red tailed black shark.

The barbs nipped the tetras fins so I gave them away, bit they never bovered pleccy.

Sharky did used to try and eat/suck on the plecs tail but I haven't noticed him do that recently.

Fish tank readings:
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 10
ph: 7.5ish
not sure of the hardness.

Could it be that it's too alkaline? Or what?

Please help, his tail ( and no other fin, just the plecs tail ) is deteriorating away fast

thanks in advance, Joshua.

Will upload a picture when possible.

Well the plec was found thismorning floating in the tank :(

advice on what it was??

Could possibly be the shark did damage a main part of the tail and a bacterial infection took hold rotting the tail which then attacked the plecs internal system

Your water isn't too alkaline. But it will limit the fish you can have. Tetras prefer more acidic/neutral water.

Ideal fish for your water would be common livebearers and rainbowfish. :)

James.
