Help My Gourmai

Sounds good. Can I start the second round of tetracycline right away, or do I need to run the carbon first? I changed the water and added the carbon but I can remove it.

Does it say in the instructions if you have to preform a water, and run some black carbon before retreating.

The instructions just say:

" add 1 pack/10 gallons, repeat dose in 24 hours, wait an additional 24 hours and repeat treatment for a second time for a total of 4 doses. Make a final 25% water change and add carbon. Treatment may be repeated if necessary"

Doesn't specify if carbon should be used if repeated entire treatment.

Have you done the 4 doses.Sounds like you run carbon after the 4 doses.

She completed the 4 doses, but wasn't sure if I should run the carbon then repeat the 4 doses, or just start the next 4 doses now.

I would do the 25% water change and run some black carbon for aday.
Add fresh new carbon to the filter.
Then start the treatment again.

Keeping fingers crossed that the second round we will see some inprovment.

Well I let the carbon run for 24 hours, and did another water change. I just added the first dose for the second round of tetracycline. I put a brighter light over the isolation tank to see if I could get a better look at her appearance wise, she didn't like this she swam really fast away from the light and bumped her nose on the side of the tank, but otherwise doing about the same. Even with the brighter light I still don't see anything unusual about her appearance. Now swellings, growths, worms etc. Her gills are pink (deep pink, not bright pink, but definitely not red, normal pink I think, the same pink as they were when I got her). Her poop looks a little more mucusy then it did yesterday, but NOT stringy and NOT white, it is brown (pic below), I am thinking that it might have to do with all the antibiotics. But otherwise she is about the same. I am starting to wonder if this might just be her rather than an illness. Is it possible that she has some sort of congenital problem that would cause her to have the odd swimming?

Finish the tetracycline just to make sure it wasn't an infection on the swim bladder.

Fish can be born with a deformed swim bladder, it can also be an injury.
If there no improvement after the med course I would just let her live her life out, if she not suffering, bless her.

Thanks Wilder, that was what I was planning to do. If this round of Tetracycline doesn't do anything, then I will just put her back in the main tank. She doesn't seem to be suffering at all. I know some people would say to euthanize her but I just can't seem to justify that when her only problem is that she occasionally swims funny. Oh well, she only has 3 days left of this treatment, so we will see what happens.

Thanks again.

Hello, well this is the second dose of the tetracyclin (round 3 of antibiotics), I think she might be looking a little better, but could just be my wishful thinking. So I decided to take yet another video clip of her, well actually I decided to do a bit of a video diary for this round of anitbiotics. So here is the link for the Day 2 of treatment video.

New Symptom ... hopefully a better diagnosis will occur.

Ok so I was just checking in on her and noticed a dark discolouration about 1/2 way between her fin and her nose. I don't really want to call it a black spot, but rather a smudge that is darker than her normal colouring. I did not notice the "smudge" this morning, but when I took the video of her today, she swam around rather violently to get away, but in the process she knocked herself in the the walls of the tank a couple of times. She has done this rapid "violent" swimming before when I would take out the camera or get my face too close to the tank (she is shy, and always "freaks out" when the camera gets too close), so I am not sure if this is finally an outward symptom of her illness showing up, or if she injuried herself when she knocked her self off the filter. She never "knocked her self out" or anything, but still banged pretty hard into the filter and the tank walls. Anyway, my camera is not the greatest, but I have got a few shots that will hopefully explaine what I am talking about. The "smudge" almost looks like a bruise, if that is possible.

Again I know the quality is horrible, I will try to get a better pic.

Thanks

Ok I got a couple more that are a little better quality, I have quick cure here for for Ick and protozon parasites. I don't think I can add it with the antibiotics, but do you think it might be worth doing a round with it when the antibiotics are finished on Tuesday? Oh and other than this spot there is no other changes with her apperance or behaviour wise. She still dosn't seem to be suffering in anyway, still pooping normally and still eating.

How weird, I went back to see if I could get a better picture of the mark, and it is COMPLETELY gone. I mean literally it is gone, I can't find it anyway on her. So not really sure what it was but whatever it was it is now gone. Hopefully that is a good thing.
