i have started to notice the fins and tails of my fish starting to fall out (not litteraly but bits are missing) it looks as if the taila and fins are feathered at the ends...at first i thought it was the angel fish (they have been re-homed as a result) but now this "feathering" has continued, i thought i'd leave it for a while and see if it got better but i have proof it WASN'T the angel fish. I got some new fish a few days ago (after re-homing angel fish) and i have noticed this same type of "feathering" HELP I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS!

Search fin rot or tail rot, First off do water changes every day about 50% change and make sure water quality is superb this can clear it up without meds but i would recoment getting meds, tail rot or fin rot is a sign of bad water quality, Or like you said it could be another fish nipping could you please list the fish in the tank and water stats and size of tank.

Can you please post details of what fish you have in your tank and what size the tank is?

21 fish 64 litre tank:
2 guppies (9 guppy babies)
4 peppered corrys
2 glass fish
3 glass catfish
2 red robin gouramies
2 bumblebee fish
1 red platty
1 tri-coloured platty
2 steal blue killi fish
3 sunset platys
2 brittlenosed plecos
1 shrimp (1possible baby)
and snails

The tank is settled.
I only have one tank and it's in my room.

I have already been told to do a 50% water change by someone off of here..i have done about2 days ago, water is as clear as a bell...

Test your water for the two toxins: Ammonia & Nitrite. If you do not have a test kit, go to your local fish store and ask them to test it for you.

If you are the UK, Pets At Home will test your water for free. They close at 8pm tonight, the quicker you get down the better :good:

8pm..wow i thought they closed at 6pm!! my dad is gonna be pissed...i have had an extreemly unlucky time with my fish and he is literally sick of them. I'm not sure if he'll take me. Anyways wish me luck, hopefully he shall see how bad my guppy (Donna)'s tail has got...there is literally nothing left and has started to go a brownish colour (it is naturally blue)

I'd pick up some aquarium salts aswell if I were you. It will help stop the bacterial growth.

as ever i seem to be unlucky...no water testing for my tank tonight :'( poor fishies

In that case, do a 50% water change. This will ensure a low amount of Ammonia/Nitrite.

Your tank isn't cycled that's why your fish are dying you need a test kit asap! Test the water alot everyday and do water changes everytime you get any reading over 0 on nitrate, nitrite and ammonia your cycle is over and you filter media is matured when you are getting 0 nitrite and 0 ammonia over a 7 day period a reading for nitrate isnt unusual. Right now you need to water change as much as poiible if you think a 50% over a 2 day period is god enough its not more like 70% every day and use a good water conditioner.

no it is cycled...we've had water tests and the reason the mollies died was because i'd only had the tank1 week...i've now had it for like 3 months! the fish arn't dieing (and the babies seem fine) it's just something is going on with their fins and tails. Last water check we had was fandabidosey (great).
