Help My Fish Are Dying!

Not sure about using melafix with parasite meds. Only know you can use pimafix with parasite meds.
If you do use melafix I would only go in with half dose. Melafix is only good on external bacteria infection not internal.
Ok thanks Wilder. You've been a great help. I will pick up some Primafix tomorrow and fingers crossed its not Ichthyosporidium. I will let you know how I get on. Thanks again. :good:

just found a clown loach dead, it had buried itself under the gravel :( one of the two remaining is looking likely to go ext and the other is missing possibly also buried :( totally bummed out

Poor things. R.I.P.
Never rains but pours.
Keep me updated if you don't mind.
Good Luck.

Doesn't it just :( This morning I woke up to two more dead angels and three dead black phantoms. I got some Pimafix today but I was to late for another black phantom, my first and favorite clown loach and the bala shark, the smaller of the two pictus has got cloudy eyes and I have little hope for two of the remaining angels but one of the black angels seems to have perked up and is swimming around and eating so maybe the melafix did something. I have now removed the carbon again and and dosed with a half measure of protozin and full dose of pimafix. All I can do now is hope and pray that it works. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

And again thank you so much for your help. Oh I wanted to ask, is it worth taking the live plants out? the java fern has loads of furry algae which is looking dusty from when I took the gravel out, will they carry the bacteria or do you think they will be ok??

Ask in the plant section of the forum as I have never had live plants in my tank.
Good Luck.

Thanks will do. I have ordered some plastic ones off ebay which I am waiting for to arrive so I may ditch the live ones anyway as they are not in the best health either but I never did have green fingers.

Sadly I have now lost another angel the smaller pictus cat and a glowlight tetra. I am pretty sure the other golden Angel will be gone by the time I get home.

On the positive though I think the last black Angel my make it, he has been swimming round the take normally and seems alot better, also the other pictus catfish has perked up as well, he has been zooming round the tank like he did when we first got him. My tank is looking very bare now though :( but I think I will be waiting until Xmas before putting anymore stock in and I will be doing alot more reading and research and make sure I have all the meds I need in advance.

Thanks again for your help Wilder. Your a star :good:

Bless them. R.I.P.
Good luck with the surviving fish. let me know how they get on.

I don't keep real plants as i'm scared of snails. They freak me out.
Plus plants always seem to die on me aswell.

I asked about the plants at the LFS and they said rinse them off but shouldn't be any problem, I like the snails I think they are cute and I used to have the clown loach to keep their numbers down, although I am starting to think plastic is the way to go, they will last a bit longer. As suspected I lost the other goden Angel and another glowlight. There are 8 Glowlights left but none look too good so don't expect them to survive.

I am now down to 14 fish out of 39, that is a high fatality rate! The guy at lfs said I should get rid of all the emaining fish and start again, how awful, I can't do that, not with the ones that are ok at the moment although I am starting to consider putting the Glowlights out of their misery, I just keep thinking though what if the treatment works.

Anyway, I'm off to bed now so I will just have to see what they are like in the morning.

The other black Angel and catfish are still doing ok so I am hopeful for them at least : )

What fish do you keep then?

No casualties yet today which is good. Hopefully the glowlights may recover :)

I really feel for you. We had a bacterial infection which wiped out about 30 of our fish, then we got a fungal infection straight after which killed off another 20, then we restocked and have now got whitespot. I have been keeping fish for years and had a 4 foot and never had any infections then i thought i would be kind and upgrade to a 6ft as i had bala sharks and since i upgraded ive had all these infections, its heart breaking losing all your fish. My severum is suffering bad with whitespot at the moment, i am also treating with protozin, on day 3, so fingers crossed. Wilder seems to have a lot of knowledge on infections and has helped me immensley. I really hope the rest of your fish make it.

I would ask in the plants section about steralising them as parasites are always a worry.
Good Luck.

Thanks Hopkigg

Things are starting to look up, the white spot seems to be going and the pimafix is getting rid of the bacterial infections, the glowlights were looking alot better this morning and the pictus catfish was whizzing around doing upside down swimming which he hasn't done for ages so I think he prefers having less tank mates. You are right Wilder has been an absolute diamond, I think all of my fish would have died if it wasn't for her. Good luck with your white spot treatment I hope it goes, protozin has worked every other time I have used it, I think it was just a particulary bad strain this time, or I didn't catch it in time. I just wish I had know about the Pimafix earlier then maybe I could have saved my bala shark, he is greatly missed.

I put a thread up in the plants section but have had no responses, LFS said they should be fine but not sure whether I would trust anything they say. I bought some plastic plants off ebay but I am dubious about putting them in the tank as the bottom is like a plaster of paris weight, is this normal?? I soaked them overnight and the bases done appear to crumbling or disolving at all. They were specifically for an aquarium but I really don't want to poison the rest of my fish :S do you think they will be ok??

The plaster of paris bottoms of the plants are ok. Never had any problems with the bases.
The plastic botton ones the little plastic screw thing can pop out now and then when doing a water change and have to put it back.
