Help, my betta is sick!

Bilbo is my first betta, and I've had him for a little more than a
year. We were on vacation for a week, and when we got back he was
acting funny. He hasn't been eating, a couple times I've seen him
grab a piece of food and then spit it back out a few seconds later.
He also hides at the far bottom corner of his tank most of the time,
only coming up for some air. I think he might have some
discoloration, but I'm not sure as he is always hiding so I can't get
a good look at him. What can I do?

will he flare up at a mirror set a mirror in front of him and see if you can see any fin or tail rot on him and check his belly to make sure it isnt swelled up or anything like that. What do you keep him in a tank or a bowl? Try adding a little salt in his water. They make a product called bettamax that stuff is great for bettas it has medicine for everything that bettas need. Please let me know when you check him out and also if you can try getting the betta max .

mine does that to but hte pet store person said when he spits them out its cuz he's only a little bit hungry and hes just nibbling on it.

I don't think his belly is swollen at all, but I don't know what tail and fin rot looks like. Is there a site with a good picture of it? He is in a 2.5 gallon tank, I recently moved him into it since his old one was falling apart. I'll go to the petstore today and look into getting some bettamax and salt for him.
