not much you can do apart from give it time to settle sometimes it can take a few days maybe a week
you could empty the tank again then refill it by pouring the water onto a plate so it doesnt stir the sand up again

no dont run your filter it will ruin it then you will need a new impelor best thing you can do is syphon out all the water and refill the tank using a plate so you dont stir the sand up again

Why not just take it back out and rinse it properly?
lol its just been rinsed in 55g

Thanks so much man

It's not true at all that the impellors will be ruined. That's only true if the water + debris hits the impellor before filter media. Often this is only on HOB filters. So check the filter beforehand, if the filter pads come before the impellor you'll be fine.

But yeah I definitely agree with waterdrop. Just empty it and start again. You've learnt the easy way what happens when you're impatient in the fish keeping hobby! So count yourself lucky.

Once it's properly washed put it all back in (tank should be completely empty), and then when you're refilling put a plate or bowl on the gravel and pour the water onto that so that it takes the majority of the force. This combined with washing should give you a clear tank almost straight away.

Just a note...often in the fish keeping game. Doing it right the first time saves you time and money. Try not to cut corners, and do rely on chemicals to save you. More often than not they're over priced rubbish.

Yes, hi there, I was in a hurry earlier and didn't mean my comment to be blunt. The rinsing of substrate, best done a bucket at a time with a hose outdoors assuming its not too cold, can be a long drawn out process and over time people figure out how to set the hose pressure such that they can just leave it running unattended for pretty long usually. Substrate can have quite a lot of "dust" in it.

Having the substrate in the tank water is not rinsing it because the dust has nowhere to go (except into the filter where you don't particularly want it.) The suggestion to re-rinse out in a bucket comes from a long line of advice we've all given each other here over the years that some sorts of tank maintenance activities always -seem- worse than they really are. Draining a tank and taking substrate out, for whatever reason, is definately one of those things and its really easier than it first seems.

Anyway, welcome to our beginners section since I didn't have a chance before,
