hey guys, just need help stocking this. dont know how many or what type to put with my other fish.

I have:

5 silver dollars (1 female, 4 male)
1 common pleco

Please give me some help, also i was thinking of buying a couple of convicts. could i buy 2 males or two females, or would they fight? because im worried about taking care of a bunch on convict babies all the time

well silver dollars scare easily, so wouldnt the convicts scare them? Why not get some rams and maybe a school of cories?

I'm not sure about the convicts. I wouldn't know much about them. :dunno:

However, silver dollars get very big. If you plan on keeping them indefinitely, you might want to get a far bigger tank. However, if they're temporary inhabitants, you could get fish that aren't aggressive and don't move around too fast.

Suggestions:
Corydoras, livebearers, gouramis, black skirt tetras

As for the common plec, those get to over a foot in length, so you might want to replace it with a few otocinclus instead. :/ HTH

yea not sure about the convicts... the plec getts pretty big though... as tempestuousfury said

For pleco, get a bristlenose or other dwarf plecos.

Personally, I think convicts are a bad idea - at my LFS, they cannot get rid of them as they breed so easily. I saw them on sale at 50c each for 2 inch specimen and still no one purchases them... ;)

Besides, they will destroy just about all your tankmates when they mate...

Get a pair (more if they are unsexable) of german blue ram as wrs suggested.

yeah i might get some rams. but are you sure that the pleco will get to big for the tank. they are very slow moving and most sites say that they can easily live in 45G or higher

They do grow past 1 feet so theoretically, it will exceed the depth (fron to back) of your tank. That is too big for that tank... Also, they poop like crazy, even taking account of their size.

If you have another (larger) tank that will eventually accomodate this pleco, then it is ok, but I've heard so many stories already about pleco outgrowing their tank and they have no choice but to bring it back to their LFS. Personally, I'd look for other smaller plecos with more interesting looks than the common pleco - I've seen some...

oh ok, here is my new "to be" list of fish in my tank. does this combo sound good to you guys? comments please:

In my 55 Gallon tank:

5 silver dollars
1 common pleco
2 german blue rams
3 blue gouramis
5+ danios

sound good??

I'd still swap the Common Plec for 2 bristenose plecs. Also, it might be better idea to keep Pearl Gouramis, they are a bit more peaceful and won't frighten your SD'd.

Apart from that, looking good :)
