Help! How do I feed my tetras????

Tetras are normally middle feeders and - from what I've seen with my assortment of tetras - can, and will, go days without eating. I just make sure to throw in a pinch of sinking flakes, crumbled up pretty finely. If the tetras are hungry, they'll grab them as they float down.

Usually when I add new tetras, or any new fish, for that matter, it takes 'em a day or two to adjust to the tank. During that period they're pretty much not interested in any food I toss in. :)

Hope this helps. :)
I totally agree

My Rosy tetras are terrible when it comes to feeding time. They act as if they've never eaten in their lives. Within moments they are darting around in all directions shovelling in everything and anything. I have to distract them to make sure the more timid tankmates get their share.

now my platties are hogs, and my red phantom tetras... 1 comes up to eat with the platties and one is shy, stays mid range and waits. But my filter usualy takes him some food. Man some fish do not know manners when it comes to e ating. lol

LOL - ain't that the truth. I had to isolate a balloon molly in a breeding container from and when I dished some food into his trap at feeding time, I also doled some out to the general public. About 3 of my mollies decided the food in front of their nose wasn't good enough for them, they wanted to somehow get the food in the breeding trap. LOL.

So, here's what I've done - and it seems to work quite well for me:

I've lowered the amount of bloodworms I introduce into the tank - leaving just enough to allow the Danios and Mollies to be preoccupied. Then I add a few finely crumbled flakes and gently push them under the surface of the water. This usually causes them to sink and the Tetras start nipping out their food. As for the Cories, every 2-3 days I add a few sinking wafers to the mix for them.
Great idea Becca... I think that could work for me too!

thanks again everyone! It's really good to know that my platies and mollies aren't the only fish destined for obesity! :p :D

YIPPEE!! They're eating! They're eating!! I took your advice Becca and Tenko and distracted the rest with some bloodworms then crumbled up some flakes and sank them in the filter flow. One brave tetra snagged a whole bloodworm for himself (yup - he belongs in my tank... the piggie!! ) but the rest were soon nibbling on the teeny, tiny flakes!! I'm soooo relieved.

thanks for putting up with my new fish jitters!
