Ok. I got home and the carpet's soaked. I've put all my fish into giant tuppawear thingy so they're fine.

I need to know how to find the leak. how to fix it. Has it happened to you. just any good advice basically. :D

So far, I've taken everything out of tank and have put it on the floor on newspaper. I'm filling it with water, so if it dribbles, I can see where from. I've bought aquarium glue.

Basically, i'm a girl, :*) I don't know about this stuff. If I can't see where it's leaking from, what do I do? :look:

If anyone's done this before or if you've got any ideas, it really would be greatly appreciated.

Also, my tanks only about 7 months old - I bought it brand new. why would have this happened already. :dunno:

Ok. thanks heaps for any advice!

If you can't see any obvious crack then you need to assume some of your silicone sealant has come away or been pierced, etc. Or alternatively, if you have an external filter, one of your pipes might have a leak or come loose, allowing water to be pumped or siphoned onto the carpet.

If it's the filter connections, might be an idea to silicone them in place if you can.

Finding the leak on your tank, fill it bit by bit, say a few inches at a time, so you know what level the leak is on. Then wipe around with kitchen roll or something absorbant, see where the tank is damp and your leak should be around there.

Your silicone sealer will take 8 hours to set, and it's best to leave at least overnight - 24 hours if you can to allow the fumes to dissipate so try and get some temp accomodation for the fish. See if your lfs will board them for you or if they have any cheap second hand tanks you could have.

A brand new tank at 7 months old should not have sprung a leak, and should be under some sort of warranty either from the place you bought it from or the manufacturer. Did you place polystrene tiles underneath it?

well its usualy fron the seems but look at all the pices of lass at an angle so if there is a split in the galss u can c it i there is then some glass filler will fix it if not then u need to find someone that can hold ur tank with some water in it O.K
1) clean ur tank and make it dry.
2) get somethink like food coloouring (dark colours are best)(food colouring optional)
3) put about 2 pints of water and than add food colour(food colouring optional)
4) put the tank on an edges and wait for about 3 min and then do this for all the other sides.
If the sides don't leak then u have a crack on the glass and u just wased about half an hour.

Fish friendly silicone sealer isnt expensive, i'd go around all the edges with that even if you dont find the leak and then test it again.

Sushi reported to a moderator instead of a reply... but here it is:

"hi. I've just got home from work and checked my tank. It's not leaking a drop!!!!!!! So all my PANICKING! and fish shifting was for nothing.

I think It was my power filter. A couple of times after I've put it back in after cleaning it the air pipe that's connected to the bit where the water flow comes out has ciphoned the water out and I've stopped it. But I think it's done it when I didn't know or wasn't here and that's where all the water came from.
I thought I had a crazy filter but obviously this happens to people other than me.
How do I fix it?? The place where the airpipe connects onto where the water flow goes out is really loose and comes out sometimes. Is that not normal???? Should I glue that on properly. I don't want to find this has happened again. mY carpets gonna rot as it is. Not good to the flat bond!!!!!
I'd be really grateful (and already am) if u could help me out again?? please :)
Thanks heaps and heaps for your advice!!!
Thankyou. Sushi"

One way to keep the line from siphoning is to place the air pump higher than the fish tank. Good luck!

Do you mean the airpump that is for making bubbles? My air pump isn't connected to my filter at all. It's purely for making oxygen. The filters got it's own air pipe that I'm assuming is supposed to suck in air. I don't know. all I know is it's not doing what it's supposed to.
