Well Done, it is a bit of a roller coaster, at the moment and will continue to be, hang :D

Don't know if you read this at the top of beginners section, it was a record of when i cycled my tank with fish, it will not be the same readings as yours but it might give you an idea of the roller coaster that can happenCycling with fish

What snowyzmom suggested about some beneficial bacteria might be a help to your cycling, I have never used it myself but I know a lot of people on here talk about it, I think there is one called 'cycle' you might want to look into it.

Great going and good luck :D

Hi

thanks for the advice, yes I have read your article (and every other thing in the beginners section) very helpful as a bench mark. I will look into cycle and keep you posted on the progress of my (my husband's really!) tank and fish.

Further developements!!

Hi we're back! Fish face is gulping/gasping again. I have been doing a bit of reading and on the emergency posting on golden malabar danios (also gulping/gasping) 'the wolf' mentions gill flukes. could this be our problem as our first black widow who died had very red gills (being an amature wasn't sure if this was usual so didn't mention it before).
Fish face also seems to have a bit of a bottom problem (as first black widow did) - long white pooh which does not seem to detatch and red inflammed anus/arse. my husband has posted a photo of fish face incase this helps to shed any light on our problem. were we sold diseased fish?
Really don't want to loose any more of my fishy friends, I have fooled the children so far by saying fishy no 5 is hiding somewhere but I don't think my blanket of deception will work for much longer! We are still doing water changes and monitoring ammonia and nitrite and all are zero.
I would love to know what anyone thinks.
thanks

Oh how dumb am I! I've just found the diseases A-Z, think we may have internal parasites and gill flukes. what do we do now? What medication do I need? Temp is currently 80. Can I do salt bath for black widows?
Help

If it is interna bacterial then Interpet No 9 would be very good to use but I am not too sure about gill flukes I believe that is a little more complicated. Also I believe that gill flukes are very visible and you can actually see them so you can be really sure before you treat them.

i have recently used the Interper no 9 for internal bacteria (I had long white stringy poo) - oops not me sorry the fish did! and it has worked great.

Hope all works out ok for your fish. Good Luck
