Fred has what looks like pop eye. mums goin to get him some treatment when she has finished work for me, but i really hope he is ok. whats the survival rate of fish that get pop eye?
*cries*

It is doubtful that he will die.
Usually, if you treat it, it should be ok. The worst that will happen is that he will lose his eye(s), but if you are treating it, you should be ok.

You need anti internal bacteria by interpet.
Fish can die of popeye as it closely related to dropsy because of the build up of fluids.
Popeye can be caused by bad water quality, bacterial, eye flukes, external parasites, to much aeration.

Exophthalmia (a.k.a. Pop-Eye)

Symptoms:

Fish with exophthalmia will have eyes that are abnormally enlarged and protrude from their sockets. In severe cases the eyes may actually burst from the socket, leaving the fish eyeless. Eye swelling is caused by a build up of fluids in or behind the eye.

Cause:

There can be any number of causes for this condition. Possible causes include poor water quality, bacterial infections, viral infections, eye flukes or other parasitic infestations, or piscine tuberculosis. Even though the fish may recover, the protruding eye may remain that way. This should not adversely affect that fish.

Treatment:

Since there are so many possible causes a broad-spectrum antibiotic is recommended, such as Tetracycline, but this treatment cannot obviously guarantee success. Be sure to keep water quality in good condition.

i really hope he is going to be ok.. i have to admit, i have been away and havent had a chance to do a water change for a couple of weeks, but will be doing one as soon as the treatment is done. or should i do one sooner than that? mums starting the treatment tonight, but he didnt come out for his food this morning.
i am planning on moving my 3 boys to different tanks (they are in a divided 90 litre at the mo) after i come back from another holiday next week, so it will be easier for me to do water changes afer that, cuz they tank they are in now is a pig to do water changes on.

I would do a water change and gravel vac before you add the med.

Waterlife myaxzin cures popeye. I've used it in the past.
Its not bad but it dosn't always work on popeye. On the waterlife website it only says it controls popeye.

cool.. ill do a change before i medicate the tank. thanks so much guys i really appreciate it :)
