Hi all

Can anyone tell me what these fish might be suffering with please?
They appear the be raised lumps.
I thought it might be hole in the head but I’m just guessing.
All the fish are feeding fine.

Can you give us more details please? Tanks size, water stats and if you’ve added any recent things fish plants etc? Have you lost any fish?

I’ll be honest given it’s rainbow fish I’m suspecting fish TB…

Hey wills
Thanks for the reply

The tank has been running for 2 years.
I lost fish when setting up the tank but had a good year or so without any losses until a couple of months ago.
I lost all 6 of my Cory catfish which I had since settling the tank up. I couldn’t see any obvious reasons why they passed away.
The only fish I have added in the last 3 month were 3 Parkinson rainbows, one of them I lost about a month ago.
The tank is 350 litres
My water parameters are
PH 6.5
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate under 5.0
GH 12
KH 4
Po4 0

How long has the ramirezi dwarf cichlid (ram) had the lump?
What did it start like?

How long have the rainbows had the lumps?

-------------------

The lump on the ram could be a tumour or bacterial infection, possibly a granuloma.

The sores on the rainbowfish could be symptoms of Fish TB (Mycobacterium sp).

There's no cure for tumours, granulomas (clump of Fish TB bacteria) or Fish TB.
You can try feeding the rainbowfish lots of plant matter in their diet and see if it helps with the sores. But if it's Fish TB, they will eventually die.

Common symptoms of Fish TB in rainbowfish just before they die include:
bloating/ getting really fat overnight, stop eating, do a stringy white poop, gasp at surface or near filter outlet, and die within 24-48 hours of showing these symptoms.

The following link has info on Fish TB and is worth a read, especially from the human safety perspective. It might not be TB, but you should know what to look for if it is.

About 8 weeks they have all had these marks and lumps.
I have tried anti bacterial medicine and fluke and wormer treatments.
Other fish in the tank have been flashing.
I did have them in a quarantine tank but put them back in the main tank as I needed to used the quarantine tank for shrimp when treating the main tank for parasites.

post pictures and video of the other fishes that are rubbing on things.
if the fish have had the lumps for 2 months then it's probably TB, the ram could be a tumour or TB. just monitor them and see how they go.

Another fish dead.
Today my Geo who has always been healthy and I have had him for two years. He started going mad banging into the glass and the roof of the tank. He is now floating upside down.
I think im about ready to give up this hobby, too much sadness recently

Another fish dead.
So, sorry to hear...
Could you do what Colin has asked you to do, post some videos of the others to get a better look of what might be going on?

Upload videos to YouTube, then copy & paste the link here.

When fish start swimming erratically and bouncing off walls, it's normally caused by an infection in the brain. It can be from a virus, bacteria or protozoan infection. Cleaning the tank and adding salt can usually stop protozoan and viral infections and some bacterial infections but not all.
