could the breeding trap stress her? im worried that any babies would just be sucked straight into the filter or eaten. she looked a bit stressed when i first put her in but i put in some gravel and a bit of plant and turned off the light and she seemed fine. ive heard your not supposed to leave them in for more than 48 hours so i suppose if it gets to that ill just have to let her out - do you think i could put the net over the filter?

ive taken her out of the breeding trap i think shes been in too long and she still hasnt dropped, ive put the net over the filtervto stop fry being sucked in and borrowed some plastic plants from another healthy tank (i rinsed them in in tapwater first to kill any nasty bacteria)for the fry to hide in and thats it... anyone got any advice? :hyper:

I found a fry this morning!!!!!! :hyper: he / she was on the net i put over the filter and the pregnant fish is almost back to normal size! i put the fry into a little bucket for now so it isnt eaten until i can look for some more and then i will put the frame back into the breeding net and put the fry in it (having taken the net off the filter) thanks for all your help guys: does anyone have any other advice on caring for him / her??? ive crushed a few of the flakes i give the parents and put them in until i can get some fry food - thanks again and ill keep you updated on his / her progress!!!! :hyper:

No need to buy fry food. Just keep crushing the flakes, and feed tiny amounts so it doesn't foul your water. I've got a tank with both types of platies myself. I put a fair amount of live plants in there. Now, at any given time, I have a half dozen or more fry swimming amongst the plants. I don't feed them directly, they just grab bits of flakes as they float by. They also pick at the plants a bit. When they get big enough, they feed also on the dried Daphnia in the TopFin Small Freeze Dried Medley that I feed as variety to the adult fish. They grow fast, and my adult platies are as big as I've seen.
