Fish Fanatic
If you've got a sand substrate it can take a while to get the hang of it. I think I've finaly got it now. Lol.
I've found that if you have trouble getting all the crud off the bottom with the wide head on then try using just the hose on it's own. It gives you more control over it and helps remove more without taking a lot of sand out too.
As the others have already said, I'd do regular water changes (daily) for now. You'll find that the ammonia will stay low after a while and probably the nitrite will start to rise a bit. Keep up the water changes until the nitrite stays low too.
Another thing is too cut down on the feeding for a while. Maybe go to feeding them every couple of days, then as the ammonia comes under control bring it up to once a day. The fish'll be fine with that as they can go without food for quite a while and too much food will make getting the ammonia under control a little harder.
