Hi,

I'm putting together a moss wall background and have read and researched ways to do this...

The only problem i have is attaching the moss wall to the glass, there are two ways that i know to do this using either suckers or magnets...

The sucker things would leave alot of room between the wall itself and the glass so im not too fond of that idea, the magnets would have to be in the tank and outside the tank... do you know of any OTHER way of doing this.

My tank is hexagon shaped (not my idea!) and most sides are visible, kids being kids will most likely move the magnets or something, i would rather do it some other way if possible..

IF THERE IS ANY OTHER WAY OF ME TO DO THIS PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

Thanks!

Thanks, but i dont think leaning it against it will stay in one place, and i have thought about really tiny suckers but i just hope there wont be a gap. Alot of my fish died in a BAD sudden case of white spot but three survived and are better than ever, im not sure what fish ill replace them with, and if there small or have fry later on i dont want them to get trapped....

Thanks for your thoughts, ill be takin them into consideration, more are welcome! ;)

I have an idea but it would involve emptying the tank. You could attach it with silicone tank sealant.

if you cut the mesh so it fits perfect to each side of the tank, then bury the bottom in the substrate and leave it hanging above the water surface, there is no way a fish can get behind.

Just use suckers.

To be honest other than the emptying the tank bit i have noo idea where to begin!...

When you say substrate do you mean gravel/sand or something else... That did prop into mind..

Thanks! :)

yes gravel or sand (or whatever else you have on the bottom) I have done a quick sketch if it helps:

The red is the mesh, as you can see it is a perfect fit width ways & it is above the water line & below the substrate level so there is no where, where the fish can get in.

As for starting, get some mesh, spread the moss out evenly across it, dont spread it oo thick otherwose the undernath will rot. The once it is covered, get some fishing ine and tie on, then use suckers to attach.

Thank you for taking time out in doing the sketch much appreciaated!! V nice of you.

And thanks for the weblink!

:D

O one last thing... i have a hexagon tank shape so i want the mesh wall on two sides of the tank, would i make two separate walls or make one big one and slightly fold it so that it fits on the two sides of glasses or doesnt it matter so long as i make sure theres no gap between the two...

hmm well thats brings up problems on its own u didnt mention that before. if you bend the mesh it will posibly make a larger gap behind it and if you use 2 walls they may be a gap in the middle.
up2 u i guess

A friend of mine uses pieces of bogwood, in addition to suction cups, leaning against the moss wall to ensure that it stays pinned to the glass. I don't know if the practical benefit is huge, but the effect is nice as the moss spreads from the wall onto the bogwood.
