I'll of had Jaffa two weeks tomorrow. I've never seen him eat and he's just not been interested in food. But today i saw him try the flakes which he spat out.

Anyway, he's so lifeless, sits on bottom of tank most of time. A few times i thought i'd lost him. If i give him a gentle nudge he swims ok for a little bit then sinks back to the bottom.

He takes no notice of a mirror, no notice if i put my finger on the tank. His breathing seems heavy.

As you can see Royal Stud is fine. Water stats are fine.

I had him in another tank and thought that may be the problem so moved him 3 days ago but he's not perked up at all.

I want to cuddle him and feed him with a pipette :( Always worked with my hampsters.

Any advice would be very very welcome.

OH NO!!! but he was flaring good at your females the other week, do you have live food or frozen live food? maybe try him on this, if he aint been eatting he's gunna be weak so will be finding it hard to get to the surface, have you got a breeding net or simular? if so put him in this so he is near the surface so he gets a better chance at breathing, has he lost weight at all?

I'd put him in a smaller tank if you have it (a gallon or 2 would be fine) so he can swim to the surface easier but also for quarantine purposes. I'd also treat him with some aquarium salt (1/2 teaspoon per gallon). The live food is also a very good idea, but I'd also try buying another type of prepared betta food to see what he likes. Poor little guy, I hope he recovers soon. Keep us posted.

dusky, can you get to the shop in the morning? i will give you some of the food he was eating very well. and some live food for him as well, we'll sort him out if he's still with us tomorrow, fingers crossed. oh the food is free by the way, hope you can make it.

Hiya hun,
I've tried him with fresh & frozen, flakes, wafer, different sorts of flakes but no interest. yes he is geting weak, sometimes he lays on top of the pump. He was flaring very well at the female to start but stopped after day or so and sat in a corner. I don't know what else to do. He's so beautiful i don't want him to die. He was starting to go like this when in the tank i bought with him. Just no interest in the food at all. I've put a general tonic in too. Ummm don't suppose your near to me to pop in and have a look? :)

He was going like it in a small tank. thanks for you best wishes.

aww what a shame Dusky, hope he makes it, good luck

Thanks hun so do I

so he went into the 7 litre tank? might be that he didnt like it in there, some are funny like that, the reason he was going to sit on the filter was because he was looking for a high place next to the water surface so he could breath., if all water stats are ok then it really must be some sort of internal infection.

Yes, then when he got miserable i moved him to a bigger tank and now into the one hes in. Shall i put him back into the 7ltr and then i'll start treating him with some of the array of different medicines i've got. But i'll come in and see you tomorrow.

Well Jaffa is still with us :) He's in the small tank which first thing this morning i put some salt in and upped the temp a bit. Modaz very very kindly sorted me out today with the food he was eating. He's eaten 4 of the live worms and livened up a bit when they went in. He's still not looking or seeing the food. Three worms landed on him and he didnt notice. He's not touched the pellets though. When the worms went in he flared for a little bit. Tonight I did the water change and put in the internal bacteria medicine in.

He seems to be swimming a bit more often but is still just stopping and sinking to bottom and staying in whichever position he lands in for a while and breathing still isn't brilliant.

Fingers crossed he's going to pull through this. He's certainly a little fighter.Although right at this moment he's slumped on the bottom playing dead again. I'm sure he starts swimming and laughing at me when i turn my back

I've put some more vids of him on in case anyone notices anything i've missed. His swimming does seem rather eratic sometimes and jerky.

A huuuuuuuuuuuuge thank you to Modaz for all the help :)

I honestly can't say what's wrong with him. When he moves he looks great (beautiful boy, btw), he just seem lethargic. I hope you do find out what's wrong with him, it'd be a shame to loose him.

Hi!

I'm new on here and have absolutely NO knowledge of these fish in the slightest, but I do know a beautiful fish when I see one, just wanted to say that I hope that Jaffa pulls through for you, will watch and see what progress he makes, thinking of you and your beautiful Jaffa!!

Glad to hear Jaffa is still with you. I hope he soon makes a full recovery.....he's a beautiful boy

Awwwwwwww thank you everyone,, you've brought tears to my eyes. Tissues please......... :thanks:

I have seen a fish act like that for two different reasons, one was when i used a Finrot treatment and the fish seemed to react and just sank like a stone as soon as he stopped trying to swim and the other time was when one of my fish got swimbladder and sank to the bottom and stayed there he had to fight to make it to the surface and as soon as he stopped he sank back to the bottom.

I really hope he pulls through as he is a real beauty
