I recently joined the forum when I got my mollies, but before my new gang I had 2 Bettas,
Hubert a beautiful VT, and Clarence, a wonderful CT. They both passed when we moved to our new apartment. :(
I'm not real sure what the problem was. I wanted to pay tribute to them here if that is ok with everyone.

very Handsome :)

Oh im sorry for your loss. Sometimes the stress can kill bettas just like with humans. May I ask did you keep any of their cycled water when you set up their tanks in your new home?

No I was unable to. But when I first got them I was under the impression (Like a ningcompoop) that they liked it better in small spaces, and I had them in bowls.
Then I read up on the care, got a 10gal, and a divider, They were so happy, and grateful for all the space!! Swimming around like mad!! So I figured they would be ok
in their bowls for a little while, till I was able to prepare their tank again......... Well, that was the week we had our real bad ice storms, I had a hard time with their water temp,
and I think that is was ultimatley killed them. :(

^^
Oh thats a sad story :(

I am moving house in a few months and i think the most stressfull part will be moving my four tanks!!

Aw Im sorry but good on you for listening to advice and reading up and then acting! a lot of people will read they need a bigger thank and then keep their bettas where they are in a bowl, At least you did the right thing by them before they died, thats more than a lot of people who buy bettas do

A girl I work with told me one day she wanted a betta in a vase...... I tried to tell her why that is not a good idea..... she looked at me like I was an idiot.
I hope she decides not to do it.

Glad you learned what was necessary and changed. Most ppl don't do that.

In response to quoted - Betta fish are tropical fish and require every basic amenity that any other tropical fish requires (with exception to oxygenated water). Unfortunately ignorance and poor marketing leads to these fish being "trendy fads".

Let's not keep these guys in an unheated bowl; even temporarily ;). Beyond that, a low current filter and a heater is a must. obviously there are exceptions..... but for the sake of general treatment; small bowl + no heater + no filter = problems.

edit: btw, stunning bettas. i'm sorry for your loss. you certainly have the right intentions and will be a great betta owner (soon to be addict im afraid :p)
