Hi, my name is Justin and I am 15 years old. I am new to the forum, but I have been into freshwater aquariums since I was 10 years old. Currently I have a simple 5 gallon 5 piece rectangular prisim tank. I have decided to become more serious about fish and I am going to take the marine biology course that my school offers. Fishing is one of my hobbies, although I usually put the fish back in the water. My other hobbies are BMX (park bike tricks) and computer technology.

Heh, anyway I got a used aquarium (15 gallons) so I decided that I want to become serious about aquariums. I have a very tiny bedroom (6x8ft) so this tank will probably go in the living room. I think that I will go for a salt water setup. Problem is the tank didnt include anything, it was really cheap so whatever. I will post all these questions in the proper forum.

Anyway, off to post the new thread in the proper place, see you people around.

:hi: to the forum Justin.

May i suggest that if you want to get serious about aquariums that you start by getting serious with freshwater aquariums.

Saltwater aquariums are more complex, more work and way more expensive. Getting yourself a good grounding with freshwater first of all would stand you in good stead when you do take the plunge into saltwater.

Good to have you with us and see you around the boards. :good:

Yeah I actually Decided I will just keep all my stuff and put it in the new tank, the old tank will go to my cousin :) Thanks for the help.

I have a question though, the old tank doesnt have alot of gravel can I just use regular sand instead? (I have a few bags of sand outside my house) It's like regular beach sand will it be cloudy?

Whether it is safe for aquarium use depends on which type of sand it is. If you're not sure, i wouldn't use it.

Try to get children's playsand. I don't know if you guys have a shop called 'Argos' in the US, but something like this is ideal.

If you don't have Argos over there, any hardware or toy store should have some.

Hope this helps you. :good:
