Hello From Scotland :)

These forums are designed for everyone to learn! Even the most experienced fishkeepers here learn things every day.

One bit of advice ... don't follow advice from the LFS (local fish store) staff! Their job is to sell you things, whether you need them or not. They honestly aren't concerned about the welfare of your fish. WE ARE! The best advice we can give is to do your research before buying any fish or supplies. That way you can go into any LFS armed with knowledge! There's another thread going on here about which LFSs to avoid, which are bad, etc. It doesn't matter. They all give bad advice and all have just one thing in mind: sell, sell, sell.

Glad you joined us!!

Thankyou everyone.
Can I also ask another question? I went to pets at home today to buy a rock/cave/somewhere for my 2 to hide and feel safe. I got them a lovely spacious "broken pot" when I was having a look at the other fish I noticed in the coldwater section stunning siamese fighter fish in with the goldfish and fantails. Now I used to have one in my tropical tank with my angel fish but had to separate it as it was being attacked by them. I was under the impression they were tropical and when I looked they had them in most of the coldwater tanks. They are definitely tropical fish aren't they?

Bettas(siamese fighting fish) are tropical. Most lfs keep them in little bowls without filtration or heaters, but they are tropical.
