Hello there

Relatively new fish dude here.

I'm currently running a 28ltr tank, and have been for the last year, until I have the space and finances to upgrade. At the moment I've all community fish - 3 female speckled mollies, half a dozen male guppies, half a dozen neon tetra and a dwarf bristlenose pleco.

started the tank off with a fishless cycle, had a couple of fatalities but so far I've had nothing major. Tank's getting its weekly clean and water change on Sunday, I'll post a picture up after that.

Anyway, that's me!

When do you reckon that upgrade is happening?

Welcome as well, Hotchef007. What a cracking username!

Really not sure tbh, it's finding the room. I know the next tank will be glass rather than acrylic. Rightly or wrongly I've got it in my head that it'll be easier to keep clean! lol

I also know I'll be putting it though a fishless cycle before I transfer my fishes over. I'm thinking of using the water I take out of the old tank to help kick start the cycle. Would that be wise or am i barking up the wrong tree?

The reason I ask is that at the moment, that's an awful lot of fish in a very small tank, so the sooner the better for the upgrade.

You wouldn't need to do a fishless cycle when transfering over, just put all the filter media from the old tank's filter into the new filter, and then top up with what you get with the new filter. All your bacteria are transfered, so as long as you don't add any more fish, you should be ok. Don't bother with tank water, there aren't any significant levels of bacteria in the water.
