Hello all,
I wanted to join for assistance in my hobby for freshwater aquariums. I've recently converted my tank to start housing live plants. It is low tech, Nicrew 48" LED lighting 8 hours a day with no C02. I've added Hypro Polyspermy to both sides of my 55 gallon, Anubia in my right corner, dwarf hair grass in front,, and a Java fern attached to my rocks. The tank is not how i would like it to look in my own opinion but i am still a novice on aqua scaping. Before this it was a Cichlid tank no live plants just sand substrate and hollows rocks stacked with a few artificial plants for aesthetics, still not as pretty as most but it ran efficiently for 3 years and survived a move to a new house. I lost the cichlids due to an overly aggressive fish that killed off my others. left him in a tank by itself until i decide to get rid of him and start on a community tank with peaceful fish. Now i have Black Skirt Tetras, cherry barbs, otoc cats, and amano shrimp. I like the look of the peaceful community among the live plants, but I've joined to get assistance/information to improve and learn how to keep my plants clean and thriving. I look forward to talking with someone who may be interested in helping bring me up to speed on what i should or should not be doing.

Thanks,
Brandon

nice barbs may be aggressive. pictures?

I have heard that, when i was looking into them i read some people say they were not aggressive and some that said mildly but less than other barbs. i attached a pic i took for algae advice but i got a few of them in the pic.

Anubia in my right corner
It looks as though the anubias is planted in the substrate? Like java fern it should be grown attached to decor as the rhizome will rot if it's under the substrate.

Probably hard to see, but the rhizome is out of the substrate and sitting on top of a river Stone. I have the stone sitting low in the substrate.

Cherry barbs will be just fine in that tank. They are not aggressive, especially when you have a good sized group of them like you have.
