Hello everyone!

Well, I just joined what looks to be your great forum here and am excited about finding more hobbyists who like to 'talk fish', so to speak!

A little about me:

I live in SE Wisconsin (USA) and am married with children. I have to admit that I got interested in this hobby for what is probably for all the wrong reasons - My wife and I finally became annoyed enough about a corner in our living room being too empty, so we went to Walmart under the premise of bringing home sort peice of furniture or even one of those big fake plants. However, while we were in the store, we happened to walk past the pet department and came home with a 55 gallon tank; which fit nicely in that corner. To make a long story short, I ran into all of the usual problems an ill-prepared newbie might...but instead of getting frustrated and giving up, for some reason I felt challenged and wanted to overcome that. Now, about two and a half or three years later, I have kept a number of fish to include both freshwater and saltwater, as well as a planted tank for a short time...basically everything but a brackish tank.

That being said, my hopes are to learn as much as I can from the members and info here, as well as to share my own experiences and what I have learned from them.

You are using a product which replaces all of the trace elements that RO water does not contain....so you are all good and I am a moron for not listening to your ESP message a while back

Welcome! :D

Hmmm...SE Wisconsin. Milwaukee Aquarium Society is having an auction October 21st; http://www.mas-wi.com/auction.htm

I might drive up for that one, I was talking to a few guys that were at our club auction today. I might skip the one in Kalamazoo Michigan next weekend, since these gentlemen from Milwaukee were nice enough to drive down to ours.

welcome to the forum, good to you for sticking with what could have been a mistake and getting yourself addicted

xXx

Thanks for the Welcomes! Over the past twenty four hours or so, I have been able to read at least a few posts and information on this forum and am very glad that I found you all!

Hey Tolak! Thanks for pointing that out to me. Since I am so close to Milwaukee, I have been to a couple of their events; although I am ashamed to admit that I have yet to become more involved with them. In fact, I picked up an amazing pair of cockatoo cichlids (both males though) from an MAS auction earlier this year; which has been a goal of mine for at least a year or so prior. Unfortunately, the smaller of the two fish did die - somewhat mysteriously, but I do have some solid guesses as to why that happened - but I still have the other one and it is absolutely thriving right now. To be honest, every time I cross paths with another hobbyist's cockatoo cichlid, I am starting to think mine might have one of the more impressive coloration on its fins...but then again, I can't say I have layed my eyes upon a ton of them yet either.
