Hi all!

I'm fairly new to the tropical fish scene. Pre-teens I kept a fairly small tropical tank, from what I remember I had a handful of neons, a Betta, and a Kuhli loach. It's likely I had a few others but I really don't remember it that well!
Now I'm a bit older with my own place, degree finished and full time job, it's time to rediscover an old hobby!
My Dad kept tropical fish for over 10 years, and now currently has a koi pond home to around 18 koi, to which he has had for the past 8 years or so now

Thus, with some little knowledge from my younger days, the research I've done (mainly on cycling to begin with), and the knowledge my dad has to offer (which is far more extensive than I first thought), I thought I'd get myself involved in tropical fish keeping once again and get involved with a forum!

Any great tips or advice for a new beginner would be greatly received, yet I hope to be getting involved soon and purchasing my tank within the next week or so!

I think I'm being a little optimistic to be honest with what I'm looking at.

I'm hoping to keep guppies, neons or cardinal tetras, cories or shrimp and then hopefully a Betta at a later stage.

Thanks all for being so welcoming too I'm still doing plenty of reading and research, and any advice is always welcomed. And yes my Dad has been a big help already!
