Hello, Can you help ID my new needlfish?

He was advertised as a "Freshwater Needlefish" but, these descriptions are so often wrong and there's several types, regardless.

The rusty looking blotches on his head and nose are flash glare or something.. They don't actually exist. The short, narrow red stripe behind his head does, however... if that helps.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

I've been trying to ID him, and I saw that name mentioned frequently, but couldn't find any good pictures that matched.

It's been a worry, as I know some of the needlefishes can grow quite large.. I understand he's one of the smaller variety. That's exactly what I wanted to hear.

I wanted a gar specifically, and turned down many types based on max size alone, finally I saw him and took the guy's word at the fish store as to the fish's max length.

I'm glad he was right.
