Hello to you all,

I would like to introduce myself quickly:

5 yrs ago my husband and I moved from Germany to Scotland. I had fish since I was a baby (okay, my parents had them and I watched them since I was a baby  ) so I always put up a tank somewhere and infected my husband with this 'illness'. We had tanks or a pond... or both...

Currently we have a pond with goldfish, kois and sterlets. We have got our first small marine tank (a 400 l marine tank is just being built, 4 'bigger' fresh water tanks (40 - 130 l) and 11 breeding tanks mainly for guppies.

For me an aquarium has to have live plants in them. I like the look of the plants, the babies have got something to hide in and the system is much more stable. I love to see photos of other people's tanks so I get new ideas for my own tanks. Allthough my husband says I have started aquascaping, I would say, I have just started to build green jungles. But the fish and I like it, which is a start...

Hello from a fellow German who also lives in Britain :)

It sounds like you got some lovely tanks up and running. Could you share pictures? I'm nosey :p

HI Nicole and welcome to the forum, It's only an illness if you have more than 10 tanks.... :D some on here have a shed load..... :D hope you enjoy the site.....

Thank you for your nice welcome.
I am just trying to take some decent photos of my tanks - I have just restructured everything, including new lighting, so I am still experimenting with the new camera settings. Hopefully if I copy this link now:...

...people should be able to see a photo? :hyper:
Ok, so this is just a little bit of the left hand side of the tank. You might recognise the substrate: It is the catlitter that several people here have used before.

This is the whole tank now. Obviously the colours are very different from the first photo, but this is quite realistic. I will get rid of the photobackground within the next days, as I think the real plants look so much better than the background... So far the plants did not grow too much - I only put them in there about 2 weeks ago. On the other hand: everything is still nice and green, so at least nothing died immediately! In the tank are 8 Penguin Tetras, 4 Honey Gouramis, 4 Bronze Corydoras and 1.000.000 Cherry Shrimps (approx.) and some female Guppy babies (~5).

Now I will try and take more photos to upload tomorrow!

Welcome to TFF Nicole, come have a look in the planted section while your here, would be great to see a journal of your planted tanks. :)

Today I have found out, that I fell for a nice trick - not sure, what I am going to do about it yet, but the really nice plant with the white pattern in my photo is a fittonia mini white, which is not an aqutic plant at all. Whilst I was actually informed, the plant was 'acclimatised' for use in water, I only thought it was strange, the plant had no roots at all. I was upset and angry, because if I spend money for a potted plant, I expect a potted plant, not some cuttings stuck in a pot. Since I had to go to that shop today anyway, I asked them if that was normal and the guy repeated, this plant was 'new' for use in tank and he actually wasn't sure if it should have roots. When I came back home I googled and ... aha... this plant will die under water hence does not need roots... In between I have also found the list of non-aquatic plants in this forum... so now I am thinking about returning it or keeping it as a house plant... Anyway, I have taken it out of the tank...
